Position: Volunteer Manager

Reports to: Director of Development and Communications                                        Date: January 2021

Status: Full-time exempt

Scope of the Position

  • The Volunteer Manager will help Lutheran Settlement House increase our capacity by developing a comprehensive volunteering program. The Manager will support our programs and administrative services by identifying areas of need and recruiting, training, and overseeing volunteers and interns. The Manager will also support group volunteering projects from corporations, churches, and civic groups, coordinating efforts with our Development department.

 General Responsibilities of the Volunteer Manager

  • Identify areas of need throughout the agency, including regular volunteer, skills-based volunteering, and interns.
  • Recruit volunteers to meet agency needs using online tools and outreach to groups like higher education and churches.
  • Build and oversee a regular group of volunteers to support our food pantry.
  • Respond to volunteer interest submissions, and discern with the volunteers whether they are a good fit for LSH needs.
  • Develop and deliver volunteer orientations, and support program staff who will train and oversee volunteers.
  • Collaborate with Development to integrate our volunteer management into our fundraising practices.
  • Develop and implement assessments and volunteer appreciation practices.
  • Support LSH outreach activities, including tabling events and presenting to groups.
  • Support agency fundraising events and other fundraising efforts where appropriate. 

Qualifications

  • At least two years of non-profit experience.
  • Experience overseeing volunteers and personal volunteering experience preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with a variety of people.
  • Experience with online communications and databases.
  • Flexibility to adapt to the changing needs of a dynamic community-based organization.

Level of Language Proficiency

Proficient in English (reading/writing/verbal communication), Bilingual English and Spanish preferred but not required.
