The Alliance for Community Transit - Los Angeles (ACT-LA) is a broad coalition of 41 organizations that fight for housing and transit justice in Los Angeles County. 

The coalition’s Housing Justice Campaign Manager will join a small, high capacity team. This is a new position. We are looking for a visionary Manager with strong leadership and project management abilities, excellent coalition management skills, and a proven track record of winning concrete housing justice victories with and for communities of color and low-income communities. 

The Manager will lead the coalition’s campaigns and other interventions that lead to equitable land use planning, tenant protections, affordable housing and Equitable Transit-Oriented Communities (ETOC) in LA County. The ability to multitask, delegate, lead strategic and campaign planning for groups, and inspire others towards action are critical components to success.

The following are core responsibilities of the position: 

  • Manage ACT-LA’s “Equitable Planning” committee, including leading work planning, recruiting new organizations to get involved, and working with our members on a wide range of activities including advocacy, organizing, coalition building, event planning and community/voter engagement
  • Lead all aspects of planning and managing the coalition’s work to further our housing justice goals
  • Identify opportunities for, craft advocacy strategies for and mobilize/organize our members around new revenue sources for affordable housing and tenant protections 
  • Working with ACT-LA’s Organizing and Campaign Manager, work closely with base building organizations to engage the community leaders in our member organizations 
  • Working with ACT-LA’s Communications Manager, produce content that makes the case for transformative housing policy and mobilizes people to action
  • Working with ACT-LA’s Advocacy Manager, staff and mobilize for meetings with decision-makers, relevant agencies, partners
  • Together with Advocacy Manager and Director, play an active role in state housing coalitions to ensure our vision and goals for LA County are supported by state law
  • Plan and manage events such as Town Halls and leadership trainings that further our housing justice goals
  • Represent ACT-LA on panels, at community meetings, and at relevant events
  • Respond to media requests
  • Working with ACT-LA’s Director, identify funding opportunities for housing justice organizing 

The ideal candidate has the following qualifications:

  • Expertise in housing justice issues, including tenant protections and affordable housing preservation and production
  • At least three years of community organizing and/or campaign experience
  • Voter engagement campaign experience preferred but not required
  • Experience working with grassroots community organizations
  • Familiarity with Los Angeles’s and California’s political landscape
  • Deep, demonstrated commitment to racial justice 
  • Positive, solution-oriented attitude
  • Experience developing campaigns alongside community leaders 
  • Experience successfully managing coalition work and building alignment among organizations
  • Success at managing multiple priority projects at the same time

Location: 

This position is currently remote, with a hybrid office/remote model planned for post-pandemic. Staff must be able to attend regular meetings and office hours in the City of LA and other parts of LA County. Note that ACT-LA is fiscally sponsored by Little Tokyo Service Center(LTSC) so LTSC is the employer of record for all ACT-LA staff.

Salary

$60,000 - $80,000Compensation level is dependent on years of experience; scale is $60,000-80,000
