Position Summary

UA seeks a Technology and Learning Program Manager (TLPM) to support its mission of providing youth from under-resourced communities with the skills, career exposure, networking, and support needed to prepare them for economic self-sufficiency and expand their access to economic opportunity. Building on our strategic initiative and existing agreements, the TLPM will serve as a manager for our technology pathways partnerships and lead administrator of our Learning Management System (Canvas). In addition to providing direct support to students and program staff, the TLPM will provide strategic direction in technology pathway development work, serve as the liaison for national external partners, and support all work related to successful implementation of a pathway program. The TLPM is responsible for ensuring that program is aligned with our core values and mission of the organization.  The TLPM will serve as a critical member of the national program team.

The TLPM will possess strong interpersonal skills, excellent technology skills, and have an unwavering commitment to advancing racial equity, ensuring this principle is reflected in the partnership program(s). The ideal candidate will bring three or more years of experience in technology workforce development, preferably with youth or young adults.

For more than 25 years, Urban Alliance has provided thousands of economically-disadvantaged youth with the skills, social capital, and career exposure needed to overcome systemic barriers to equal employment and educational opportunities. Urban Alliance’s programming serves as a bridge between young people, employers, and schools by providing high school students with comprehensive soft skills and digital literacy training, paid internships with local employers, individualized mentoring, case management, and ongoing post-high school planning support. Urban Alliance is one of the few youth workforce development organizations to have its impact proven by a six-year randomized controlled trial and has been recognized as a leader in the field by the book Moneyball for Government, as well as the Chronicle of Philanthropy, NPR, Forbes, the Urban Institute, and the Obama Foundation.



Key Responsibilities

Technology Pathway Management (70% of time)

Leadership

  • Lead the coordination and process of our technology pathway programs including student recruitment, content delivery, support to students, intern placements, intern success, and post high school planning. 
  • Develop a plan for monitoring outcomes, long-term employment for students in the program, expansion of or changes to programs, and support for students who participate in the program.
  • Collaborate with the evaluation team, implement data-driven continuous improvement practices to regularly assess the pathway’s effectiveness and alignment with the organizational goals and mission
  • Support regional teams to identify internships that align with students’ interests and employers’ needs.
  • Research best practices and trends in youth development and workforce development specifically related to technology to provide guidance to organizational leadership on strategic moves and priorities related to this and other key partnerships. 
  • Promote the diversity, equity, and inclusion priority through leadership that is flexible and taps the expertise and experience of staff

 

Communication

  • Serve as a liaison between Urban Alliance and technology partner organization(s) for work related to the technology pathways including content, timelines, schedules, and students’ issues. 
  • Facilitate cross-organization collaboration and internal communication with respect to technology pathway changes and issues.
  • Cultivate a strong and transparent working relationship with each region and ensure open communication about the implementation of this pathway and measurement of program performance against stated milestones and goals.
  • Ensure materials specific to the pathway are available to support with recruitment and communication. 

 

Program Management

  • Work with each region to ensure all interns have successfully completed training related to the technology pathway.
  • Liaison between Urban Alliance and outside training facilitators to ensure seamless implementation
  • Oversee the distribution of laptops and other technology for Urban Alliance participants of any technology program partnerships.
  • Design materials and support any information sessions and program orientations for the technology pathway programs.
  • Provide guidance to regions with the recruitment process for interns in the technology fields
  • Serve as a resource to staff who serve as direct support of technology interns
  • Help develop and support the implementation of post high school planning specific to technology pathways. 
  • Develop and support the implementation of alumni support for technology pathway interns. 


Learning Management System (30% of time)

  • Serve as main administrator of the Urban Alliance Learning Management System (LMS), Canvas.
  • Help to create and/or provide LMS staff training
  • Main point of contact for any user questions or issues on the system.
  • Liaison for any registration on the LMS
  • Collaborate and strategize within the team and across the organization to identify learning solutions and communication plans.
  • Drive strong utilization and adoption rates among interns, staff and mentors. You will track, analyze, and report on platform and program utilization and adoption rates and make recommendations for improvements and enhancements.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or IT Certification
  • At least 3 years of technology workforce development or programming (with youth or young adults)
  • Experience working with a Learning Management System
  • Experience with an organization that works with youth, education, and/or workforce development, and/or the understanding of and ability to maneuver in the education, workforce, and social service sectors
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively across a diverse population and a variety of organizations
  • Strong data research abilities
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and strong management qualities
  • Strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills and experience connecting with diverse stakeholders, including youth and their families, staff, organizations, and business leaders.
  • Experience working with a geographically disparate and/or remote group of people. 
  • Most live and/or be willing to work in Chicago, Baltimore, or the Greater DC area.

Salary

$52,000 - $60,000

Benefits

Compensation and Benefit Package:

The salary range for this position is $52,000 - $60,000. At Urban Alliance we offer 18 days of paid time off, 10 paid federal holidays, as well as a birthday and diversity paid holiday. Our benefits include a comprehensive health plan with 90% individual healthcare coverage, 403(B) retirement plans with a 3% match, whole life insurance and pre-tax commuter benefits. We offer working remotely up to two days per week.
