Inner City Law Center (ICLC) is a nonprofit law firm on Skid Row. Founded on the fundamental principle that every person should always be treated with dignity and respect, ICLC fights for justice for low-income tenants, working-poor families, people who are disabled or homeless, people living with HIV/AIDS, and homeless veterans. Inner City Law Center is doubling in size and we are looking for extraordinary people to help end homelessness in Los Angeles. Over the next six months, we will add 40 talented lawyers, paralegals, and other staff to our team so that we can serve far more people.

Position Description: ICLC is seeking a talented, full-time Administrative Assistant for a ground-breaking new project that is helping individuals who are homeless and have disabilities gain access to critical income-support benefits. This Project will provide technical assistance, training, and other support on disability benefits applications for individuals who are homeless throughout Los Angeles County.

The primary responsibility of the Administrative Assistant is supporting attorneys who provide technical assistance and lead trainings for our partner agencies and their case managers on applications for Supplemental Security Income, Social Security Disability Insurance and Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants.

The Administrative Assistant will work as part of a team and will provide project-related clerical and other supportive services to ICLC team members. At the direction of the Directing Attorney and staff attorneys, the Administrative Assistant will handle email and other correspondence, format and edit Word documents, schedule appointments and meetings, and enter, track and extract data from Excel spreadsheets and other data formats. The Administrative Assistant will also prepare documents and materials for training sessions, interact with public and community agencies such as the Social Security Administration and the Department of Public Social Services, and update the Project website. The Administrative Assistant may also perform other duties as needed.

Hiring Criteria: Commitment to ICLC’s mission and values. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Organized and detail-oriented. Ability to assume responsibility quickly and independently manage varied responsibilities. Ability to use good judgment, multitask and meet deadlines. Experience with Outlook and the Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to learn and utilize databases, software, and case management systems. Excellent customer service skills. Prior SSI, SSDI or other disability benefits experience a plus.

Compensation: Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Excellent benefits. This position is funded for three years, with a possibility for extension based on future funding.
