Have you gone to a museum exhibit and wished you could have been a part of the planning? Then consider joining the Programs and Exhibitions department. We strive to create experiences that inform, amaze and shift perceptions of what a library can be and the way we can serve the community.


As a Programs and Exhibits Specialist, you will plan, develop and host programs with themes and topics of interest to our residents primarily for adults, with opportunities to support program development for all ages. Engage with our community to create unique programming, and facilitate effective partnerships that result in programs, events or exhibits that achieve the library’s strategic goals. Participate in program analysis and reporting, to ensure continuous improvement and positive customer outcomes.


To collaborate most effectively with staff across the library, the preferred candidate will have excellent communication skills and the demonstrated ability to excel in Our Culture.

Requirements & Skills: 

Program or event planning experience required. Exhibit or museum experience a plus. Experience serving multicultural audiences preferred. Adept with technology. Responsible to manage multiple priorities with close attention to detail. Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communications and strong customer service skills. Must be effective working independently and in teams.


Bachelor degree or equivalent experience preferred.

Hours and Scheduling: 

Part time, 25 hours per week. Must be available for evening and weekend programs.

Salary and Benefits: 

Starting pay rate $15.50 to $18.24 based on qualifications.



Includes two weeks of vacation plus sick and personal leave, as well as participation in Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) pension plan and availability of Roth/457 savings plan.
