Surgo Ventures, with headquarters in Washington, DC and a hub in the United Kingdom, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to solving health and social problems with precision. We do this by bringing together all the tools available from behavioral science, data science, and artificial intelligence to unlock solutions that will improve and save lives. We work globally: in the United States, the United Kingdom, and in low- and middle-income countries on issues like COVID-19, tuberculosis, maternal and child health, housing, and more.

Our multidisciplinary team includes global development experts, data scientists, behavioral scientists, and technologists who are skilled in collecting, analyzing and interpreting data on why people behave the way they do and how complex systems work, and in developing scalable solutions and tools. We are a growing, diverse team with big plans. We are now recruiting for an Analyst or Associate (depending on experience) to support our CEO.

The Analyst is motivated and adaptable, and provides direct support to our CEO. As a strategist, consultant, and implementer, a main function of the role will be to streamline the CEO’s activities within the organization based on their priorities. We are looking for a multi-talented professional who can wear many hats and hold multifarious responsibilities. The Analyst will be working closely with the CEO and will be exposed to crosscutting work within the organization. The role provides an avenue for career growth inside a young and dynamic organization. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has strong management and communications skills who would like to be exposed to the executive level within a data-driven global health organization.

Role Description:

We are looking for an exceptional, creative, and entrepreneurial individual who is data-driven and a strong communicator. In this role you will provide comprehensive direct support to the CEO from the tactical to the strategic. This is a great role for someone looking to transition into social impact work. As Analyst, your core responsibilities are: 

Strategic Support to the CEO

  • Stay up-to-date on public health and research topics of critical interest to the CEO and prepare briefs and presentations to keep her informed of trends and developments in the field
  • Develop and review internal and external Communications: drafting letters and presentations, reports, and presentations for the CEO
  • Bring a data-driven and proactive approach to developing materials and presentations 
  • Manage and oversee special projects from research to recommendations to implementation
  • Scope possibilities for new priority areas, analyzing existing research to inform priorities, and make recommendations to the CEO and team
  • Provide writing, research, and project management support for various initiatives
  • Coordinate with members of the leadership team and others to support the effectiveness of the CEO
  • Contribute to the team and organization by supporting programmatic portfolio and initiative activities as needed (research, writing, coordination, partner management)
  • May at times represent the CEO at meetings and events as needed


Direct Support to the CEO

  • Support the CEO in calendar and email management, prioritization of meetings, obligations, and their time
  • Optimize the CEO’s productivity and effectiveness across initiatives and organizational management responsibilities
  • Maintain an organized system for tracking, monitoring and prioritizing contacts, tasks, and projects for the CEO
  • Facilitate smooth and effective communication with external partners by reviewing and responding to email, mail, and invitations 
  • Facilitate arrangements for extensive travel and complex logistics for both external and internal meetings, speaking engagements and conferences
  • Prep for meetings and follow up: reviewing upcoming meetings for the week/month/quarter to ensure the CEO has all of the information needed to be as productive as possible; send out agendas or documents to meeting attendees as necessary and coordinate required follow up
  • Provide coordination support to key organizational processes such as annual planning and board reporting
  • Prepare internal communications such as updates and memos to the CEO
  • Take notes and document meetings in the form of meeting reports


Core Experience and Knowledge:

  • Consulting experience is required
  • Interest and experience in public health a huge plus
  • Background developing presentations and written reports 
  • High degree of experience with using Excel, Word, PowerPoint and other software as needed; high level of comfort with technology in general and interest in seeking and exploring new business management tools
  • Exhibit excellent project and time management skills, with the ability to manage numerous requests/deliverables simultaneously
  • Proven track record of effectively interacting with a variety of stakeholders
  • US work permit (required)

  • Utilize sophisticated problem-solving capabilities and critical thinking to help address management challenges and program development.
  • Ability to communicate with diplomacy, professionalism, and tact; excellent relationship management skills.
  • Highly independent
  • Extremely proactive; always trying to improve the effectiveness of Surgo activities
  • Ability to work across multiples time zones given the nature of the work and travel schedule of the CEO
  •  ‘Can-do’ attitude and active willingness to contribute achievement of organizational goals


Location: Washington, DC, USA

Compensation: competitive 

Travel: Minimal travel, may include some domestic and international travel
