RISE Yoga for Youth is a small nonprofit that brings yoga, mindfulness, and wellness education programming to public schools in the San Francisco Bay Area. Through our innovative curriculum, community building practices and social-emotional learning, we empower students to develop the inner resources needed to respond to life's challenges in constructive ways. Founded in 2013, RISE (Root-Inspire-Support-Empower) has grown from one program at Mission High School in San Francisco to 12 school sites throughout the Bay Area, serving over 1,500 students each year. Our programming supports the physical, mental, and emotional health of teens in grades 6-12, and is offered as an elective course, as part of a PE program, or as an after-school program. At RISE, we envision a world where vulnerable and marginalized youth connect to a sense of inner- peace, self-worth, and inherent goodness; emanate compassion and kindness through their actions; develop the ability to manage stress and build resilience; and become agents of positive change in the world.


The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for the strategic leadership of RISE, successful fund development, ensuring consistent delivery of quality and impactful programs and achievement of the RISE mission. The ED will work with the board and senior staff to establish strategic direction and goals of the organization and is responsible for managing and growing staff, overseeing all organizational operations and prudent financial management of RISE. This is a fantastic opportunity for a candidate with a proven track record of successful fundraising, outstanding written and verbal communication skills, and past experience successfully scaling a team in service of a mission.



  • As lead fundraiser for RISE, ensure the organization reaches its funding goals each year
  • Work with the board and staff to further develop existing sources of income, and generate new sources, that will sustain the organization
  • Create a focused fundraising plan with annual growth goals to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major individual, foundation, and corporate donors
  • Own all relationships with key stakeholders, including foundations, major individual donors, corporations, and top decision-makers at fee-for-service program sites
  • Cultivate committed and enthusiastic donors who are passionate about the cause and want to see the impact grow
  • Responsible for all aspects of grants, including research, cultivation, writing, implementation, evaluation, and reporting (along with key staff and grant writers as appropriate)
  • Organize and oversee special events (one-two major events per year)


  • Work with program staff to ensure high quality programs and data-driven program evaluation
  • In collaboration with the board and staff, establish program growth strategy and annual goals
  • Create and negotiate fee-for-service contracts and pay structure with all program sites

Board Management

  • Provide leadership to the board in implementing the vision and mission of the organization
  • Develop board meeting agendas and facilitate meetings
  • Present timely and accurate written and verbal reports to the board about the status of agreed upon objectives, finances, fundraising and other relevant issues at regularly scheduled meetings
  • Engage the board in outreach, relationship building and fundraising

Community Relations & Marketing

  • Build relationships and act as the RISE spokesperson and advocate, actively promoting the organization and its value in the community to volunteers, funders/donors, private industry, and other nonprofits
  • Spread the word about the work of RISE through a robust community relations and marketing plan that creates and cultivates a base of excited and committed donors and funders and utilizes well designed advertising and branding
  • Develop marketing strategy and plan to grow the reach of RISE year over year

People, Financial & Operational Leadership

  • Ensure accurate financial reports for financial oversight, including the development of an annual budget, tracking of monthly expenditures within budget, ensuring proper monthly reconciliations, and timely and accurate reports (along with appropriate staff)
  • Build a positive team of staff, educators, other contractors, and volunteers that collectively work toward fulfilling the mission of the organization
  • Recruit, train and supervise staff and work with them to build an effective team
  • Create sound Human Resources practices, systems, policies, and procedures that complement those of the fiscal sponsor and ensure a healthy work environment
  • Ensure that programs, operations, and professional image are supported by sufficient technological systems and business infrastructure

Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising skills with the ability to interface with and engage a wide range of stakeholders
  • People Leadership: Excellence in organizational management with the ability to delegate responsibilities, coach and collaborate with staff; manage and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget


  • A bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years senior management experience
  • Ability to point to specific examples of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth
  • Passion for the RISE mission, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self- directed
  • Proven track record in successful fundraising; we will also consider equivalent skills and background that will translate into successful fundraising
  • Knowledge and ability to sustainably scale a small, young non-profit into a larger organization
  • Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation
  • Humility to be both a leader and a “do-er;” willing to roll up your sleeves in a resource limited environment
  • Embodies the practices and teachings of yoga, mindfulness and conscious living


This position will most likely begin as part-time and transition to full time within a year. Salary commensurate with experience. RISE offers employer paid medical benefits, and voluntary vision, dental and life insurance when position increases to 30+ hrs/week.

The position offers a remote work arrangement (RISE does not have an official office location), but will include frequent in-person meetings with RISE staff, program sites, donors, volunteers, etc. Candidate must live in the San Francisco Bay Area.
