SUMMARY

We are seeking a Grants Accountant that would be enthusiastic about contributing to the financial efficiency and stability of an organization focused on helping unemployed individuals not only find jobs but build careers. The position is a member of the Finance and Administration team, which ensures that the organization’s resources are managed effectively and that our employees have the tools and working environment they need to thrive.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform grant-related post-award functions for a diverse portfolio of federal, state, and city contracts and private grants, including budget and expense analysis, timely preparation and submission of financial reports/invoices, labor and cost allocations, reconciliations, budget modifications, file maintenance, and closeout functions.
  • In conjunction with Sr. Grant Accountant, develop and maintain controls that support identifying potential issues early in the life cycle of an active award – budget variance reports, forecasts, sub-recipient monitoring, activity reports, funding availability reports, and funding availability reports, etc.
  • Post revenue and adjusting journal entries as needed. Maintain records in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and the organization's policies, procedures, and contracts.
  • Monitor Accounts Receivable and communicates with funders as necessary,
  • Perform reconciliation of selected balance sheet, income, and expense accounts as part of comprehensive month-end close.
  • Support completion of annual external and government agencies audits by preparing assigned schedules and collecting pertinent documentation.
  • Prioritize grant timelines and projects to ensure efficient multitasking that allows for meeting internal and external deadlines.
  • Assist with other grant-related projects.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED

  • You enjoy working with numbers and know GAAP accounting principles, management accounting methods, government accounting policies, cost allocation procedures, and nonprofit fund accounting.
  • You have a Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting. You also have at least two years of general accounting experience in a non-profit organization.
  • You have strong communication skills. You are comfortable speaking and writing to a variety of audiences. You understand the importance of working collaboratively and sharing information with others.
  • You are super organized and have great attention to detail. You are known for your keen attention to detail and ability to divide a sizable deliverable into more manageable action items. You are committed to meeting deadlines and have a high level of personal accountability for the quality of your work.
  • You have a customer service mentality. You are responsive to an internal and external requests.  You learn from others, teach those around you, and truly care about the people you work with, leading to a better outcome for everyone. You identify opportunities for process efficiencies that strengthen our infrastructure and can adapt to organizational changes.
  • You are flexible. You can shift your focus between competing priorities with ease and occasionally work nights and/or weekends to meet deadlines if needed.
  • You have working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and accounting systems or a willingness/aptitude to learn quickly.
