Urban Alliance, a national youth workforce development nonprofit, is currently seeking a Program Director to oversee programming, events, and regional staff in the greater Washington, D.C. area. About Urban Alliance

Urban Alliance provides young people with the exposure, opportunity, support, and training needed to prepare them for lifelong economic self-sufficiency. Urban Alliance’s core program matches high school seniors from under-resourced communities with paid professional internships, job skills training, one-on-one mentoring, and ongoing post-program support. Founded in Washington, D.C. in 1996, Urban Alliance has since expanded to Baltimore, Chicago, Detroit, and Northern Virginia. To date, Urban Alliance has placed over 5,000 students in paid internships and served more than 20,000 through job skills training.

 

Program Director Responsibilities

·      Staff management: Set clear guidelines and expectations and support your team in meeting them; coach, develop, and manage program staff; Recruit, interview and hire staff as needed; Support, lead by example, and ensure team cohesion

·      Program management: Oversee the team managing and implementing multiple regional programming and events, including the flagship High School Internship Program, and two programs that reach students in grades 9 - 11; Utilize program data to continually improve outcomes for youth; Oversee student recruitment

·      External relationship management: Cultivate and maintain relationships with school systems and community partner organizations

·      Budget management: Oversee multiple programmatic budgets; Track program and staff expenses

·      Data management: Track, analyze, and report program and student data; Actively use outcome data to guide program decisions for real-time course corrections

Qualifications

Essential Skills:

·      A bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience, and at least four years’ experience (or some combination of experience and graduate-level education) in youth development, curriculum development, or teaching

  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple competing priorities
  • Experienced manager or demonstrated potential to be a strong manager of 5-7 front-line staff
  • Ability to manage up to executive director
  • Proactive thinker and doer who plans, acts on that plan, and proactively briefs leadership on that plan
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (including mediation skills and the ability to have direct and open conversations)
  • Strong relationship building skills with work colleagues and youth
  • Strong executive presence and ability to steward community relationships
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google docs


Desired Experience:

  • Experience working with or life exposure to community organizations and schools in under-resourced areas

·      Demonstrated understanding of what it means to put youth at the center of the work

·      Experience in the education and/or workforce development field 

  • Classroom facilitation and/or teaching experience a plus
