Council supports national and state 4‑H programs focusing on fundraising, brand management, communications, and legal and fiduciary services. Council also oversees the National 4‑H Conference Center and the National 4‑H Supply Service, the authorized agent for items bearing the 4‑H Name and Emblem.

Position Summary

Council currently seeks a Staff Accountant to coordinate the accounts receivable function and will additionally be responsible for monthly bank account and corporate card reconciliations. Further, the Staff Accountant will review and process cash receipts, Associates’ expense reports and assist in preparing annual tax forms. The ideal candidate will also conduct relevant research, troubleshoot issues, and serve as a liaison between internal and external customers/vendors.

Responsibilities

Accounts Receivable Operations Duties

  • Ensure cash receipts are recorded and reconciled per Council policy, internal controls, and donor instructions. Research and resolve any unidentified receipts as they occur.
  • Establish and maintain an electronic filing system to easily retrieve all payments received and the related support such as updating bookkeeping databases and spreadsheets, as needed
  • Perform the necessary functions to ensure the Accounts Receivable ledger can be closed on schedule monthly.
  • Support consistent, timely, and accurate reconciliation of all assigned bank accounts.
  • Reconcile the monthly corporate card account and follow up on outstanding expense reports to monitor compliance with Council policies and timely submission of expense reports.
  • Perform fixed assets accounting and reconciliation functions.
  • Provide backup to Accounts Payable function as needed.

Finance/Accounting Team Support Duties

  • Respond to external auditor inquiries and provide schedules, research, and data as required.
  • Prepare records, schedules, and reports as requested by Accounting/Finance leadership.
  • Support finance and accounting team with other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of three to five years’ experience in accounts receivable processing.
  •  Must be able to maintain a comprehensive understanding of internal and external compliance topics and requirements.
  • Must have demonstrated proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, PowerPoint).
  • Must have the ability to prioritize, maintain organization, and effectively perform in a team-oriented environment.

Travel Requirements: This position may require travel for up to 5% of the time (local, regional, national) by air, car, and/or rail.
