How You’ll Contribute

The Content Director, Creative (CDC), will manage a multi-disciplinary team to envision, research and produce content and written materials that communicate our mission, build enthusiasm for the brand, highlight the work of our explorers, and compel people to act. The CDC will bring a sense of curiosity and innovation to the workplace, working closely with VP, Creative, and key creative, marketing and digital partners to develop effective, high quality creative solutions for all client groups.

The CDC will meet regularly with internal client-base representatives helping to focus divisional goals and concepts into finished campaigns, exhibitions, and other storytelling media. The CDC will make creative presentations and manage curator and client feedback ensuring an effective and focused project. The CDC will craft creative briefs and give clear direction to researchers and writers vendors to maintain campaign and brand consistency. The CDC will manage the content team daily to clearly and effectively communicate project messaging and complete all projects on time and budget. The CDC will work closely with designs leads, project managers, photo editors and other internal and external partners to produce and ensure accuracy of all final materials. The CDC should be well versed in the most current design and marketing trends, media, and programs. The CDC will direct, schedule and manage research, writing and proofing teams - providing professional goals, reviews, and mentoring. CDC is responsible for all daily operation, approvals, and output of content for Marketing and Experiences creative.Your Impact


Creative Development (40%)

  • Work closely with VP, Creative, and other Director-level Creatives to meet and envision top-level creative themes and messaging in support of NG divisional goals and programs.
  • Manage all staff designers and contractors to produce all written output in support of creative projects.
  • Establish and organize goals, themes and content as leader of creative content team.
  • Work in a highly collaborative fashion with other NG departments, external partners, and vendors on external messaging.
  • Develop realistic and achievable workflow strategies that can be executed within allotted time and resources.
  • Stay educated and informed on new trends and best practices in marketing and experiences.
  • Present on topics and content in development as needed.

Research and Writing (40%)

  • Write and/or coordinate written output on all creative projects.
  • Review all written output ensuring our work is accurate, supports NG goals and is presented in a powerful and consistent voice.
  • Ensure all output is vetted, proofed and fact-checked utilizing appropriate internal and external resources.

Process and Project Management (10%)

  • Manage goals, deliverables and daily efforts of the Content Team and supervise contractors to ensure work is delivered on mission, on time, and on budget.
  • Establish planning process and division of labor for staff to execute each project and provide creative guidance to staff, contractors, and consultants.
  • In close collaboration with the Project Manager, create and manage budgets, projections and schedules for all projects.

Reporting and Review (10%)

  • Prepare periodic reporting, as needed, on development progress
  • Oversee the retention of accurate records and archives of work
  • Formally and informally review content team output and deliverables, provide critiques of quality and effectiveness, recommend new practices for greater success and efficiency.

Minimum Education Required  

BA in English, a creative field or relevant degree.

Minimum Years and Type of Experience

Minimum 10 years of working on multi-platform digital, experiential, print, and/or video projects at an in-house marketing team, ad agency or creative agency

Knowledge & Skills Required

Must have deep experience in creating conceptual solutions to business needs. Must be knowledgeable in the latest creative software in a variety of media. Must be capable of leading multiple creative solutions quickly from concept to completion across multiple platforms with minimal direction. Must have diverse portfolio of writing examples including headlines, marketing pieces, digital, as well as long form content. Must collaborate and communicate effectively (oral and written), manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, pay close attention to detail. Must be capable of working cross-divisionally with large, diverse group of professionals from educators, to scientists, to fellow creatives.
