The International Secretariat of Amnesty International is looking for an excellent researcher in the EU and Balkans team.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
As a research-based campaigning organization, investigating and documenting human rights issues is fundamental to our advocacy and lobbying work. Our EU and Balkans research team requires a researcher to take the lead in strategic, thorough and impact orientated human rights research on countries in the region, primarily this research position covers other countries in the Balkans (i.e., Serbia, Kosovo, Albania, Montenegro, Macedonia); the researcher must provide country and thematic expertise, excellent research skills and sound political judgement. Your task will be to monitor, investigate and analyze political, legal and social developments, and human rights conditions, give authoritative advice on these areas and cooperate intensively with others to develop advocacy and action materials.
We are looking for someone with extensive experience of working on human rights, and experience of working and in depth knowledge of the Balkans region. You'll preferably have a background in either activism, academia, law or journalism with the ability to identify and thoroughly investigate those issues and ensure our voice has authority. You will also have proven research and writing skills with the ability to conduct impartial, on the ground investigations, interviews with victims of human rights violations, and think strategically. Fluency in written and spoken English including excellent writing skills, is essential and fluency in one of the languages of the region is desirable.
