Job Title/Program: Operations and Peer Support Group Coordinator Program: San Mateo County Pride Center

Status: $22.50/hr DOE, Full- Time, Non-Exempt + Comprehensive Health Insurance/Benefits

Reports to: Program Director

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

The San Mateo County Pride Center is the first of its kind in San Mateo County and provides intensive support services to individuals and families in the LGBTQ+ community. The Pride Center is a partnership between StarVista, Outlet of Adolescent Counseling Services, and Peninsula Family Service, in collaboration with San Mateo County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services. The Pride Center provides a broad range of services with three main components: 1) Clinical - individual, group, couples and family counseling, peer support groups, case management; 2) Social/Community -event and gathering space, education, trainings; and 3) Resource center - library, referrals, web based media center.


POSITION, PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES:

This team member plays an essential and dual role as the “face of the Center”, by supporting our administrative needs and programs and operations, as well as ensuring the functions of our invaluable peer support groups. The Operations and Peer Group Coordinator facilitates connections with organizations throughout San Mateo County, building strong relationships and ways we can collaborate and support the LGBTQ+ community. Serving as an ‘in-reach’ coordinator, they connect service users to programs within the Pride Center, including our peer support groups, social events, and clinical services. As a Coordinator, they ensure the smooth operation of our peer support groups and may facilitate some groups when appropriate. As the main point of contact to community members, their role is crucial to creating new peer groups and other services needed to support our growing LGBTQ+ community.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Connect clients, program participants and community members with appropriate and culturally relevant health, wellness, advocacy, education and economic resources/services provided by the Pride Center and other entities throughout San Mateo County.

• Provide essential operational support to Pride Center staff. This may include scheduling needs or ordering office supplies or equipment.

• Establishes a working relationship with other StarVisa team members including the Operations Manager, Facilities Operations Coordinator, Marketing Associate, Accounts Receivable Associate, Database and Analytics Manager.

• Organize and facilitate meetings and support groups to meaningfully engage community members. Creativity strongly encouraged!

• Engage and motivate community members to participate in center programs and services

• Collaborate with other coordinators to promote peer support groups, and recruit & train peer group facilitators

• Provide tours of the San Mateo County Pride Center which includes the history of our creation and development.

• Responsible for on-boarding new San Mateo County Pride Center staff.

• Work with Community Outreach Coordinator to develop, update, and create content for San Mateo County Pride Center website and other social media platforms, as requested by staff.

• Represent the Pride Center in internal StarVista committees as well as external San Mateo County committees and initiatives as needed.

• Take a non-judgmental, strength-based, and social justice-centered approach to support.

• Communicate professionally and respectfully to all program participants, community members, and partners.

• Maintain high quality documentation and tracking of all contacts, services, activities, participant attendance and demographics, and progress made. Collaborate with other staff to ensure accurate data collection and reporting.

• Cultivate and maintain a structured and independent work schedule, as this position involves a lot of autonomy.

• Function as a core member of the San Mateo County Pride Center team involved in creative visioning and development of this center to most effectively meet the needs of LGBTQ+ community; this includes supporting and attending Pride Center events.

• Participate staff meetings and trainings as well as organizational retreats and gatherings.

• Attend professional development trainings focused on LGBTQ+ issues and community meetings.

• Represent the mission of values of the Pride Center and StarVista.

• Perform other duties as needed.


KNOWLEDGE:

• Understanding of issues impacting the LGBTQ+ community including the high rate of suicide, stigma, mental health issues and substance use.

• Familiarity with San Mateo County and Bay Area community LGBTQ+ health and wellness resources.

• Understanding of anti-oppression, anti-racism, intersectionality, social justice, and cultural humility.


EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must have lived experience in the LGBTQ community.

• Strong personal organization and communication skills.

• Experience working with historically marginalized populations including clients and communities who are transgender, non-binary and gender expansive, low-income, people of color, youth, older adults, disabled, and immigrants as well as people who have a history of trauma, are dually diagnosed, living with HIV, system-engaged, and without or marginally- housed.

• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary, multiracial, multicultural, multi-gendered, and intergenerational environment.

• Strong commitment to social, racial and economic justice.

• Experience facilitating groups, and/or with public speaking a plus.

• Demonstrated ability to facilitate difficult conversation topics a plus.

• Experience using Microsoft Office 365 applications preferred.

• Experience working with ETO (Efforts to Outcome) or any other programming to track data for the Peer Support Group attendance or openness to learn.

• Willingness to travel throughout San Mateo County as needed (mileage reimbursement is provided).

• Valid CA Driver's license, working car, proof of auto insurance and ability to pass fingerprint and TB clearance is required.

• Bi-lingual in Spanish, Tagalog, Chinese (Mandarin, Cantonese), and/or Tongan highly preferred.
