We are an unconventional non-profit school located on the Thonburi campus of a state-run university, King Mongkut's University of Technology (KMUTT). Darunsikkhalai School for Innovative Learning is a constructionist and project-based learning school in southwestern Bangkok, Thailand.
Constructionism is a learning philosophy developed by the late renowned MIT professor Seymour Papert that focuses on students developing their own ideas and understanding of concepts through hands-on learning. A collaboration with Stanford University has provided DSIL students with the first fabrication lab in southeast Asia which allows students to have access to digital fabrication technology including laser cutting and 3D printing. DSIL provides bilingual (Thai - English) elementary and high school education with an emphasis on personal development, sustainability, and mindfulness.
Our job as a learning advisor is to facilitate core subject learning three days a week and to support students’ individual project-based learning on Thursdays and Fridays. Projects range from art, design, and media to environmental science, engineering, and innovation. The academic year is split into trimesters allowing each student to complete three projects a year and focus on a variety of subjects. At the end of each trimester, students share the skills and knowledge they gained in an exhibition. Each project has both Thai and English-speaking teachers.
The role of a learning advisor can change very much from day-to-day depending on the needs of the students. The job requires flexibility, patience, and a passion for mentoring and developing young minds. Teachers may be asked to work with any age group, from 6 to 18 years old, and may also be asked to work outside their area of expertise. Because of this, teachers have four weeks between each term to plan and prepare for their next project.
We are looking for native English-speaking teachers who are interested in working in an environment where the primary goal is to motivate students to pursue their own learning goals. Previous experience in education is helpful but not required, although experience with alternative or progressive education will be a major benefit. More important than teaching experience is expertise or interest in one or more subject areas. English-Speaking Teachers may be asked to teach 2-3 English classes and one project class, providing a total of 18-22 contact hours per week.
If you are interested, please email your resume and transcripts (unofficial ones are okay for now) to santi.tis@kmutt.ac.th .
All applicants must have a bachelor's degree or higher . We will get back only for the shortlisted candidates.
