New Dawn is a transfer high school located in Brooklyn, New York and we are currently looking for a NYSED certified counselor, able to conduct mandated counseling with a focus on attendance. As a transfer school we serve some of the most at-risk students in NYC those who are over-aged and under-credited. We invite people to apply who are motivated by a challenge and are capable of navigating some of the most challenging learning issues in the City. Mission Statement: New Dawn Charter High School will provide over-aged and under-credited students 15-21 years of age, including those who are English Language Learners and those with special needs, the opportunity to return to school and obtain a high school diploma through a rigorous NYSED standards-based education program. Within the framework of the education program, three programs will be offered: 1) Interventions for those with fewer than 10 credits, and for those with 11 or more credits: 2) Internships in the community and 3) College enrollment.
New Dawn was just rechartered for another full five-year term in May and we are currently in our sixth academic year and will continue to provide an exciting opportunity for individuals with an entrepreneurial spirit to continue to grow a school that addresses the needs of some of the most at-risk students in New York City.
This is a somewhat unusual counseling position but for the right person, it is ideal. We are looking for someone who enjoys working with students on acclimating after enrollment and tracking attendance. The individual who accepts this position will do counseling with students as well, working with the entire staff. Must have experience with at-risk students, be completely computer literate, understand the importance of career and college readiness, be willing to work as a member of a team for the good of students, and be willing to teach at least one advisory.
