Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls (WMRC), a music and mentoring non-profit that believes in the transformative power of music education combined with social justice discourse, is looking for an experienced, hands-on Finance Manager who is personally committed to empowering historically marginalized groups. This is a unique opportunity to help shape a tight-knit, growing organization’s Financial operations. This part-time, permanent role based in NYC requires on average 3-4 days per week, beginning immediately, with most hours falling Monday-Friday, 9-5pm. All work will be completed remotely until government restrictions have been lifted, some work can continue remotely thereafter. Salary is commensurate with experience and includes some benefits.

Our mission is to empower girls, women, and gender non-binary youth and adults through music education, volunteerism, and activities that foster self-respect, leadership skills, creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration. We believe that positioning people who have historically been silenced because of their gender and racial identity to experience the burst of confidence and self-efficacy that comes from learning to play an instrument, writing original music, performing, and engaging in social justice conversations with peers and mentors across the socio-economic spectrum, builds the next generation of musical activists who will define leadership, creative innovation, and civic engagement for generations to come.

THE POSITION: 

We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Finance Manager committed to empowering historically marginalized groups. This unique opportunity will help shape our growing organization’s financial management and systems. This role is an opportunity to bring together your love of financial systems with your dedication to social change and youth empowerment, especially through the power of music. As part of a highly collaborative team, you will support the Executive Director and staff by overseeing and maintaining financial functions, including payroll, FP&A, budgeting, bookkeeping and review/reporting. Additionally, you will support the board of directors in executing their fiduciary duties and WMRC’s strategic plan.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Prepare/present financials quarterly, annually, ad hoc for Board of Directors and Finance Committee
  • Manage/reconcile Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable 
  • Maintain Quickbooks; monitor and post all bank, credit, cash transactions
  • Manage/report financials for grant applications and donor contributions
  • Prepare/adjust audits and tax returns; manage Form 990 and CHAR500 filings
  • Process payroll, including Forms 1099-MISC/Form1096, and worker’s comp audit
  • Maintain Employee Handbook, policies, procedures, compliance with employment laws

QUALIFICATIONS:

Qualified candidates will have successful previous experience working within a non-profit social justice framework across virtual platforms in addition to exceptional financial management and reporting skills. This individual must truly believe in the transformative power at the intersection of arts education and social justice. Ideally, they will have personal experience with Girls’ Rock Camps and/or the NYC music scene. 

Specifically, the successful candidate: 

  • Has 3-5 years accounting/comptroller experience; HR experience is a plus 
  • Demonstrates attention to detail and facility juggling multiple projects and deadlines 
  • Brings strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Is highly organized, accurate and efficient
  • Is facile with current electronic office and financial platforms and applications (including Quickbooks, Paypal, remote banking, Square, Microsoft Office and G-Suite) and works well remotely on shared networks and cloud-based systems 
  • Has experience with, sensitivity to and enthusiasm for working with people from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences 
  • Is familiar with or open to learning about anti-oppressive, social justice work 
  • Is committed to gender justice and working in an inclusive environment that challenges gender stereotypes
