The American Lung Association has a great opportunity for a Manager, Special Projects to join our incredible team in the Upper Midwest Region. Working as a member of the Health Promotion & Education Team, you will join an outstanding group of professionals dedicated to our mission: to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease, through research, education and advocacy.
In this role, you will be responsible for building capacity of health care professionals, delivery systems, and communities to address asthma and COPD. This is a grant-funded position
- Fully participates on multi-state American Lung Association team to implement the clinic-based asthma quality improvement project.
- Regularly and openly communicates with multi-state American Lung Association team and National Director of Lung Health on status of projects and deliverables.
- Builds asthma management capacity in the community through trainings, presentations, and partnerships.
- Recruit and engage primary care clinics on year-long partnerships for a well-defined quality improvement project.
- Arrange for and execute professional education trainings for primary care clinic staff and other health care professionals.
- Secure the appropriate continuing education accreditations and track related documentation.
- Mentor and coach primary care clinics as they implement quality improvement processes.
- Manage logistics related to group in-person meetings, conferences, and webinars.
- Conduct community outreach and education, including broadcast, radio, print, and electronic media.
- Provide health education presentations to public and professionals groups, as appropriate.
- Coordinates home-based environmental assessments and remediation for children with poorly controlled asthma and elders with COPD.
- Secure outside funding support for respiratory health programs through grants, fees, and exhibits.
- Administers the activities of the Minnesota Thoracic Society, including membership, communications, and meetings.
- Completes all requested reports in a timely fashion.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in public health, respiratory therapy, nursing, or other health-related field required.
- Six years’ experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating health education programs for individuals and groups.
- Solid knowledge of asthma and COPD management or ability to gain content expertise within four months.
- Ability to work seamlessly with medical professionals, public health, and the general public.
- Must be a self-starter with excellent communication skills both written and oral.
- Positive attitude with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Required to travel for meetings and conferences as required by the grant.
- Ability to lift approximately 25 lbs. when assisting with local events.
- Able to work with minimum direct supervision, make decisions, and take initiative.
- Proven ability to cultivate and steward relationships across a diverse population.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends with some overnights required. Must have a valid Driver’s license.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.
