Description


The Grant Writer is part of the administrative team at Briya Public Charter School — a leading two-generation education program serving parents and their young children. Briya is a Tier One Public Charter School, consistently achieving the highest educational outcomes through its innovative, family-centric programming.


Briya seeks a Grant Writer who will make an important contribution to our comprehensive foundation and government fundraising program by identifying and securing new and ongoing financial resources for the school. The Grant Writer should have experience securing funding from private foundations, corporations, and government agencies as well as maintaining current and complete records of program outcomes and populations served.


Briya’s education program is diverse and wide-ranging and requires gaining expertise across several education programs and partner agencies. The Grant Writer will be highly collaborative; an exceptional communicator, researcher and writer; and able to leverage program success into compelling proposals, reports, and other materials to persuasively represent Briya’s mission and unique programming. This position also includes donor and alumni cultivation responsibilities and liaison roles with the Board of Director’s Development Committee and the Mary’s Center development team.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


Grant/Proposal Writing:


  • Write and submit high-quality proposals to current and potential funders including private foundations, corporations, and government agencies. Writing must be clear, succinct and responsive to the requirements of the solicitation/request for proposal; formatting must follow the guidance of the grantor and be grammatically error-free.


  • Work closely with education departments to:
  • assess funding needs
  • gain deep insight on program components and synthesize it into cohesive, easy to understand prose
  • develop succinct, compelling proposals to address needs


  • Manage and adhere to internal and external proposal deadlines.


  • Collaborate with multiple stakeholders and staff members; coordinate proposal review process between various departments and staff.


  • Acquire and organize all support materials that are to be included in the grant submission and ensure that the order and labeling of each document is clear and follows the guidance in the grant requirements.


  • Create and maintain a reporting calendar with due dates and deliverables; communicate progress regularly to stakeholders within Briya.


  • Maintain complete library of standard boilerplate language, grant applications, funder reports, and correspondence with funders.


  • Work collaboratively with the Finance Department to review grant-funded program budgets and set up required tracking and reporting structures for new funding sources.


  • Attend staff meetings as appropriate to stay abreast of program developments and report on progress for key funding initiatives.



Research:


  • Conduct prospect research to identify potential funders and funding streams.


  • Keep current with announcements of funding opportunities.


  • Work collaboratively with Director of Policy and Research to maintain current data that demonstrates need, supports the research base behind Briya’s programs, and proves program outcomes and efficacy. Maintain a library of journal articles, studies, and other third-party publications that supports Briya’s philosophy, two-generation education, charter schools, and other program features.



Funder Cultivation (Foundations, Federal Programs, Etc.):



  • Proactively build and sustain positive relationships with all Briya funders. Share relevant success stories, impact updates, and anecdotes; invite funders to appropriate events; and generally build engagement and long-term interest in Briya’s programs and success.


  • Develop working relationships with funders to ensure opportunities for repeat funding, introductions to new funding streams, and advice on navigating the submission and reporting process.


  • Ensure all donor communication (calls, emails, online and in-person meetings, events) is prompt, professional, and timely.


Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum three years’ experience in professional grant writing and awards administration, with a track record of securing grants of $10,000 - $750,000.
  • Experience working in an educational setting with knowledge of two-generation education, adult education, early childhood education, charter schools, and public education desirable.
  • English professional proficiency required.


  • Reasoning Ability – Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out moderately complex, multi-step instructions and make appropriate independent decisions as necessary.
  • Technology – Experience with and knowledge of computer operations. Comfort with, or ability to learn, Windows 10 OS, Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Business Suite.
  • Physical Demands – Regularly required standing, walking, and sitting, sometimes for many hours at a time; frequently required to reach with hands and arms, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear; must be able to lift objects up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
