Projects range from paper and markers for a poetry writing unit to violins for a school recital. More than 4 million “citizen philanthropists” have supported such projects, channeling books, field trips, technology, and other resources to more than 40 million students nationwide. In all, we’ve generated $1 billion for learning experiences designed by our country’s most dedicated public school teachers.

Team Overview

The Content & Volunteer Operations team has a front-row seat to the most compelling classroom-generated content on our site. We review all incoming project requests from teachers, and deliver the final touch for funded projects -- digital gratitude photos and physical handwritten student thank-yous -- to donors. 

Our team of staff members works in tandem with a community of 400+ mission-driven volunteers to review this content. 

We have 3 volunteer communities that support this work: 

  • Project screening volunteers (remote) 
  • Digital gratitude screening volunteers (remote) 
  • Physical student thank-you screening volunteers (in-person)

About the Role

As the part-time Operations Coordinator, you’ll be responsible for supporting key aspects of programming and operational support for our volunteer programs. 

You will also play a role in reviewing classroom content (projects and gratitude photos) that have been flagged by volunteers for additional staff review. 

In doing so, you’ll ensure that classroom-created content is successfully and speedily reviewed, with a special focus on providing support for volunteers, teachers, and donors along the way.

In this part-time role, you will: 

Support our virtual volunteer programs. 

  • Volunteer coordination and management. This could mean: answering incoming volunteer emails, drafting weekly volunteer communications, overseeing our Facebook communities, leading volunteer trainings and/or virtual events, and more. 
  • Logistics. This could mean: ordering materials and supplies, handling scheduling, and making sure that volunteers have everything they need to do their work. 

Review volunteer-flagged content escalated for staff review.

  • Review incoming digital gratitude photos and project requests that have been escalated by our project screening and digital gratitude volunteers for future review. 
  • Ensure that project content meets our site-wide eligibility requirements, upholds student safety, and meets our integrity standards.

[Once Office Re-Opens] Support in-person volunteer program

  • Support our in-person program for physical student thank-yous, including: volunteer orientations, scheduling, coordinating materials and supplies, and supporting volunteers during program hours.

  • You are an A+ communicator. Your emails make people smile and you can explain just about anything to anyone. 
  • You are tech savvy. You’re comfortable with technology, and can learn new programs and tools quickly. 
  • You are mission-motivated, and passionate about educational equity. You care about helping teachers, and believe that all students should have equal access to educational opportunities.
  • You are a recent graduate, current student, or professional who is motivated to work part-time for a mission-driven non-profit organization. A bachelor’s degree is not required.

Additional Details

  • Hours: Between 10 - 20 hours a week (depending on seasonality), with desired flexibility for occasional evenings and weekends.  
  • Location: Ability to eventually commute into our NYC office (based in Midtown), once our in-person volunteer program resumes [timing tbd].  
  • Compensation: Starting at $17 per hour
