The Montclair Cooperative School seeks an Early Childhood and Primary Spanish Teacher to join our faculty as soon as possible. The Spanish Teacher teaches Spanish to students in early childhood classrooms (ages 2.5 – 5) and also first, second, and third grades. The position will be part time, teaching 10 classes per week, a minimum of 25 hours per week. Specific hours and days will be negotiated depending on our 2018-19 class schedule. The Spanish teacher is responsible for his/her students and curriculum as well as collaborating with classroom teachers and the Upper School Spanish Teacher. The pedagogical approach of the Co-op’s Spanish program supports students in developing communication skills, vocabulary, fluency, expression, and an enjoyment of the Spanish language and culture. We seek a talented, creative Spanish teacher who can inspire students through singing, movement, games, stories, dialogue and other playful and engaging experiential learning activities.
In addition to fluency in Spanish and English, candidate should have knowledge of and appreciation for cultural elements and fundamental approaches to language instruction. Candidate’s pedagogy and classroom management should be student-centered and supportive of active learning. The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and excellent communication skills with colleagues and parents are also important. A desire to integrate curriculum with other subjects and teach in a progressive context is critical. Successful teaching experience and an appropriate degree in Spanish language and/or teaching is preferred. Co-op teachers are life-long learners who are reflective about their practice.
Salary, hours and work days to be negotiated based on experience and our 2018-19 classroom schedule.
