Front Porch Cafe Store Manager Job Summary:

Are you interested in leading a community cafe aimed at empowering teens and young adults from Richmond’s East End? CHAT’s Front Porch Cafe needs a highly capable individual with a passion for hospitality, organization, and people management. Their primary responsibility is to manage Front Porch Cafe’s day to day operations. This individual will work closely with the Work Leadership Director and the Food & Coffee Manager to carry out the cafe’s mission. This individual will lead the cafe staff team and be well known by customers and community partners. CHAT’s Front Porch Cafe is part of CHAT’s Work Leadership Institute (WLI) dedicated to providing opportunities for youth to develop valuable job skills, currently consisting of woodworking, screen printing, urban farming, and culinary programs.


Hours

The store manager will work a minimum of 40 hours per week, generally working 5 days per week. The store manager must be able to work flexible work hours, including Saturday’s, and ensure the cafe is always well staffed. In addition to working behind the service counter, the store manager’s role will include at least 10 hours per week of administrative responsibilities.


Primary Responsibilities

I. Manager

  1. Responsible for human resource oversight including staff hiring, training, coaching, and development
  2. Regular check-in meetings with each cafe employee
  3. Develop individualized professional development plans for each cafe employee
  4. Manage staff goals & expectations
  5. Sets the tone for cafe values & culture
  6. Enforce cafe policies & procedures
  7. Leads and/or attends weekly staff meetings & professional development sessions

II. Administrator

  1. Manage staff schedule & payroll
  2. Vendor Engagement on all non-food related items and macro level food choices
  3. Organize and report on daily cafe finances
  4. Manage catering orders and space rental for the cafe
  5. Manage cafe social media accounts
  6. Help create and manage marketing and promotional event schedule
  7. Develop and manage relationships with community partners
  8. Help manage healthy partnership with Bon Secours
  9. Participate in CHAT wide development events throughout the year


III. Food Service Operator

  1. Perform food preparations & service
  2. Perform coffee & espresso production & service
  3. Point of sale operator


QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCES

Anyone who is seeking this position with the Front Porch Cafe should:

  • Faith in Jesus Christ as articulated by the Apostles Creed and as demonstrated by a life that includes being part of a faith community and encouraging others to be part of faith communities
  • An intentional and practiced commitment to serving and engaging Richmond’s East End community
  • Have a passion for food & coffee, management, and hospitality services
  • 5+ Years of management experience is preferred (Food serve-safe certification is required)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Experience working with urban high school youth is preferred
