Two Rivers Public Charter School serves a diverse group of learners across three locations in Wards 5 and 6. Staff at Two Rivers create an exciting educational environment in which students and staff become a community of learners on a journey of discovery. Two Rivers uses the EL Education model, which emphasizes interactive, hands-on, project-based learning. The school focuses on the whole child, recognizing the importance of character education and the social-emotional needs of children while helping them achieve academic excellence.

The curriculum at Two Rivers is rigorous, standards-based, and provides opportunities for students to excel in all areas. An integrated arts program and a content-based Spanish program augment the school’s demanding academic program. The Position

Two Rivers is seeking a gifted educator to lead the core of the Two Rivers mission: a stellar instructional program. The Principal will report to the Chief Academic Officer and is responsible for personnel and programs in preschool through fifth grade at our 4th Street Campus. The Principal will ensure academic quality, guide teachers’ professional development, and nurture a culture of lifelong learning and relentlessly high expectations among students, staff, and families. The principal will also champion our network-wide commitment to engaging with and addressing issues of inequity.

Responsibilities

Leading Instruction

• Inspire our community around a clear, consistent, results-oriented vision for teaching and learning
• Drive ongoing instructional improvement through feedback, coaching, and professional development
• Empower teachers to create joyful, rigorous classrooms by thoughtfully balancing autonomy and creativity within shared ownership of the Two Rivers model
• Analyze existing resource allocations and make recommendations based on the curricular and learning needs of students
• Regularly analyze student data in order to support teachers in delivering high-quality interventions

Leading School Culture

• Develop strong relationships with families and students, creating investment around social-emotional learning, school culture, and the Two Rivers mission, and coach teachers in doing the same
• Work with staff to communicate regularly with families
• Lead all staff and students in establishing a positive, achievement-oriented, and fun school culture
• Oversee students’ academic and behavioral program, including disciplinary decisions, enforcement of the Student and Family Handbook, and scheduling and class decisions

Leading a Team

• Nurture a high-performing staff through effective hiring, goal-setting, supervision, support, evaluation, retention, and dismissal
• Develop and maintain a climate that attracts, keeps, and motivates a diverse and high-performing staff
• Lead, coach, and retain a high-performing leadership team

Leading with Others

• Collaborate with network-wide teams to implement operations, human resources, and communications policies that support teaching, learning, and the success of the Two Rivers community
• Nurture our network-wide instructional focus as a member of the network instructional leadership team
• Engage in constant personal learning, including the need to learn and adapt when faced with challenges and successes
• Share effective curricular and instructional practices from and with other schools

Position Requirements and Qualifications

Educational Background and Work Experience

• Successful experience leading a diverse community of educators, learners and families;
• Several years of teaching experience with a track record of high student achievement;
• Experience as an Assistant Principal, Dean or equivalent leadership role highly preferred;
• Experience in a project-based learning school or a school in the EL Education network preferred but not required;
• A master’s degree is highly preferred.
