Dialysis Patient Citizens (DPC) is a non-profit, nationwide patient advocacy organization based in Washington, D.C. We work to improve the quality of life for dialysis patients by empowering them through advocacy. DPC also recently launched a new 501(c)(3) affiliate organization, the DPC Education Center, which is dedicated to improving all kidney patients’ quality of life and reducing the occurrence of kidney failure through education. 

DPC currently seeks a part-time Grant Writer to spearhead grant writing efforts for both organizations, in order to support education and advocacy efforts for the 31 million Americans with chronic kidney disease and the half-million patients with kidney failure. The individual selected for this position will spearhead cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of funding from foundations, corporations and individuals. Successful candidates will have in-depth knowledge of the fundraising process as well as prior experience with major foundations and/or corporate grantmaking programs writing grant proposals, reports and donor correspondence. The Grant Writer will:

  • Write, edit, assemble and submit letters of inquiry, grant proposals, concept papers, program reports, and stewardship documents to funders
  • Create cultivation, solicitation and stewardship materials for foundations, corporations and individual donors and prospects including marketing materials such as brochures and fact sheets
  • Contact individual funders as necessary to support the proposal writing and grant reporting processes
  • Maintain grant writing calendar to ensure timely submission of letters of inquiry, proposals and reports
  • Manage gift processing and timely acknowledgments
  • Other duties as assigned 

A high performing candidate should bring the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
  • 3-5+ years of relevant fundraising experience
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Solid reasoning, critical thinking and problem solving abilities
  • Detail-oriented, yet able to move projects forward in a timely manner
  • Ability to multitask
  • Experience working on health care issues preferred
