Pathways to Housing DC (Pathways DC) is an innovative nonprofit agency committed to ending homelessness for individuals with serious mental illnesses, co-occurring substance abuse disorders and/or other medical challenges in our Nation’s capital. Pathways DC is seeking a highly-motivated full-time Development Assistant to support the overall function of the growing development department. 


The Development Assistant will play an important role by providing operational and administrative support to the development department and participating in all fundraising activities including donor and public relations, fundraising appeals, and special events. This is an ideal position for someone seeking to gain broad skills in nonprofit development and communications. Successful candidates will be personable and relationship-centered individuals with strong verbal and written communication skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

●    Assist the Development Manager with implementing the strategic development plan.

●    Perform donor research and think creatively to identify donor prospects;

●    Work, as needed, with the Development Manager to organize on-site and off-site events designed to steward and expand Pathways to Housing DC’s pool of supporters;

●    Support the development and production of fundraising and marketing materials, social media, and other external communications efforts;

○    Liaison with design and print vendors;

○       Produce regular content for and manage social media platforms

○       Oversee the distribution of monthly e-newsletters and other cultivation pieces;

○    Maintain and update website;

●    Organize process for maintaining permanent electronic and paper records of all donations and correspondence between fundraisers and donors;

○    Update and manage donor records in donor database (Bloomerang), including monthly reconciliation with finance department;

○       Management of in-kind donations, including solicitation of partners, coordination of item pickup and distribution, and timely acknowledgement of donations;

●       Work with Volunteer Coordinator and Development Manager to produce new and meaningful volunteer opportunities for community involvement with the organization;

●       Communicate the mission, vision, and work of Pathways DC through representation of the organization at various internal and community-driven events;

●       Support the organization of board activities, including but not limited to planning and scheduling meetings and following up with committee and board members;


Ideal Skills and Qualifications:

●    1-2 years of development, fundraising, nonprofit, and/or administrative experience preferred;

●       Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; ability to work with people of diverse social and cultural backgrounds, including colleagues within the organization and the population of people served;

●       Consistent application of confidentiality, discretion, diplomacy and tact.

●    Ability to meet deadlines and see projects through to completion;

●       Highly organized, detail-oriented, accurate, and precise;

●       Positive attitude and a sense of humor;

●       Self-starter who can work independently in a deadline-driven environment to see projects through to completion;

●       Ability to successfully manage multi-functional projects, priorities and timelines;

●    Collegial, team oriented working style with a willingness to share in both strategic thinking and administrative tasks;

●    Strong writer with demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communications;

●    Experience using social media for promotional purposes;

●    Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; experience with InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop a plus;

●    Experience with donor database management (preferred, but not required);

●    Commitment to and interest in Pathways DC's mission;

●     Flexibility with work schedule. This position does require occasional evening and weekend work;
