The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Rockville (UUCR) is seeking a Director of Religious Education (DRE) to oversee our RE program. UUCR is a large mid-size congregation with vital worship and programming, strong lay leadership, and a rapidly growing children and youth program. We are looking for a church leader who can identify and communicate the congregation's unique RE program identity: its strengths, its needs, its challenges. This person will advocate for strong lay RE leadership development and help enable the congregation to renew its vision, strengthen its stewardship, prepare for new professional leadership, and engage its future with anticipation and zest. The position will be full-time beginning in August 2018.

Responsibilities:

UUCR's lifespan religious education is a year-round program for children and youth, ages nursery-Grade 12, who seek spiritual growth, a transforming faith, stronger Unitarian Universalist identity, and vital communities of justice and love. The DRE:

  • Coordinates RE teacher training, recruitment, and provides weekly class coverage as needed
  • Provides weekly communication to families and congregation
  • Leads Children/Youth RE Committee and is the RE liaison to other church committees
  • Collaborates with the Minister and Director of Music to lead a “First Fifteen” minutes intergenerational portion of the congregation’s worship service on three Sundays per month, and several intergenerational services per year
  • In conjunction with the youth leadership, empowers and supports the Senior Youth Group to lead an all-congregation service and participate in youth programming outside of UUCR
  • Coordinates seasonal family meals and events after services
  • Manages the annual budget report for the RE Committee
  • Participates in the creation of the Annual Report
  • Purchases curriculum and other teaching and learning materials, as needed
  • Supports, nurtures and empowers children, and especially youth, to grow into leadership roles within our congregation, our district, our regional group, and nationally
  • Participates in weekly staff meetings and works collaboratively with the rest of the UUCR staff

Qualifications:

Preferred: BA in related field
