Community Health Councils (CHC) is a non-profit, community-based health education, advocacy and policy organization established in 1992 in response to the growing health and healthcare crisis. CHC’s mission is to collectively build equitable systems. CHC has been at the forefront of systems change work to eliminate disparities in health and well-being. Our policy areas include Health Systems, Food Justice and Community and Economic Resiliency. Each area represents a unique opportunity to engage members of impacted communities in program and policy development through a wide variety of community interventions and strategies as well as representation and leadership through the coalitions and collaborations convened. With a primary focus on South Los Angeles, CHC works at the local, state, and national level to improve the health and well-being of under-served and marginalized communities.
Position Summary
A central means of advancing our mission is through earned income and social enterprising. These activities allow us to generate general operating dollars to design and deploy policy and systems change objectives without compromising our revenue streams. This position will lead the continued growth and development of our portfolio of grants and contracts specifically related to our role as TA providers and asset managers in strategic partnership with Los Angeles County and key foundations. In this capacity the Portfolio Director will work closely with the Finance team as well as CHC’s community-based grant making team to assure alignment and execution of strategic objectives.
Reporting directly to the Chief Strategy Officer, the Portfolio Director will provide customized asset management services to corporate clients, government entities, wealthy individuals, and financial advisors to help grow CHC’s philanthropic workflow. We are seeking a dynamic individual to join our CHC team with responsibility for the overall program which includes supporting programmatic contracting and compliance, business development, leading client engagements, overseeing grantmaking, and team management. We're looking for a motivated, flexible, community-driven and customer-focused individual with deep knowledge of the philanthropic sector and a passion for business development. The position requires strong analytical and interpersonal skills and executive level project management skills. The Portfolio Director will play a vital role in leading the projects and initiatives that support the goals of the CHC’s strategic plan.
Overall Responsibilities
Grant management duties will include supervising grants writing consultants; creating initial call for applications; updating program guidelines; managing grant evaluation by review team; oversight of all grant contractual, fiscal, and program documentation, including site visits and monitoring; overseeing timely disbursement of grant funds; in collaboration with Finance Department, setting up vendors into the system, and ensuring all payments are done; monitoring account balances used to fund grant programs; preparing and submitting any required reports; collecting and reviewing required program and financial reports; reporting on grants secured by CHC; providing corrective action planning to grantees; and providing ongoing technical assistance and training to grantees.
The Portfolio Director will manage a Program Officer and have a project administrator to support their team. Such responsibilities include providing support in the management of one large LA County re-granting contract, including maintaining a calendar to ensure the timely submission of proposals and reports; keep multiple projects moving in a timely manner, meeting deadlines, and managing competing priorities.
