Paid Teacher Aide Position – 8 hours per week

with STEAM, an After School Middle School Program

at Foundation for a College Education (FCE)

 

FCE and STEAM

Foundation for a College Education (FCE), located in East Palo Alto, California, is a nonprofit organization that offers a comprehensive college access and success program. FCE’s mission is to increase the number of students of color from East Palo Alto and surrounding communities who graduate from a four-year college or university.


STEAM is a year-round program that helps middle school students develop the curiosity, persistence, and resilience to become successful learners and adolescents.


The Position

As a STEAM teacher aide, you will join a team of lead teachers and tutors committed to

helping middle school students become effective learners, critical thinkers and communicators.


Responsibilities

●      Serve as a small group study-skills leader and homework coach for 4 to 5 students

●      Assist in offering curriculum in the following areas: STEAM related content, study skills, design thinking, college knowledge, book club, family and culture, mindfulness, health and wellness

●      Help students develop STEAM’s core values of curiosity, persistence, and resilience

 

Qualifications

●      Emotional maturity and the ability to effectively support middle school students

●      Enthusiasm, energy, and a sense of humor

●      Excellent interpersonal skills

●      Flexibility and the ability to handle unexpected changes that may arise

●      Prior tutoring, mentoring, or coaching experiences with middle school students highly desirable, though not required

●      College degree preferred, but some college required

●      A passion for working with first-generation students of color and promoting their educational development


Commitment

2018 – 2019 Academic Year: September through May

Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 – 6:00 PM
