Status: Full-time

Reports to: President & CEO

Purpose: Responsible for the creation, coordination and implementation of all development/communications efforts, resulting in sustained funding and increased awareness about the Center and aphasia.

OVERALL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.     PUBLIC RELATIONS and CULTIVATION OF DONORS

  • Develop relationships with potential donors and manage major gifts solicitation campaigns.
  • Maintain relationships and act as liaison with past and current donors.
  • Maintain data files of supporters, donors.

·        Oversee acknowledgements and other correspondence to community organizations,  

corporations, funders, interested groups and individuals.

  • Develop appropriate public relations/education materials.
  • Coordinate communication with media and generate monthly press releases.
  • Responsible for monthly donor newsletter.
  • Maintain development section of the website and update and coordinate program updates to website. Drive efforts in the digital marketplace and vet low cost/high impact opportunities to engage a broader audience.
  • Work with development staff to regularly post on social media networks about Center events and aphasia updates.
  • Proactive efforts to raise awareness of center presence and activities throughout New Jersey.

2.     PROCURE FUNDS FOR PROGRAMMING AND ADMINISTRATION

  • Work closely with grant writer to research, develop relationships with and communicate with foundations, corporations, organizations, etc.
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with potential and present donors.
  • Work with CEO and grant writer to craft innovative grant proposal.
  • Meet with potential donors as appropriate.
  • Complete grant reports as required.
  • Develop system for annual proposal renewals.
  • Respond to community solicitors interested in fundraising/supporting the Center.

3.     DEVELOP AND COORDINATE SPECIAL EVENTS

  • Develop a fundraising event plan in conjunction with the CEO and the Development Committee.
  • Coordinate all fundraising events with support from the volunteer coach and event volunteers.
  • Close out all special events - evaluate, finalize budget, write thank yous, etc.
  • Oversee the maintenance of computer files on fundraising events, including history and data on donors.
  • Monitor budget and funds pertaining to all events.

4. ADMINISTRATION

  • Compile monthly and annual narrative and statistical reports as required.
  • Maintain database/mailing list and information on organizations, funders, donors etc.
  • Supervise development office/Center staff assigned to the department and/or projects.  
  • Attend staff meetings, trainings and supervision as required.
  • Oversee donations and facilitate the appropriate acknowledgements.
  • Monitor development department expenses.
  • Evaluation of staff under your supervision (Volunteer Coach).
  • Work with Board members and members of the Marketing & Development Committees as appropriate.
  • Develop agendas and create minutes of all Development and Marketing Committee meetings.
  • Work cooperatively with the Volunteer Coach to enable Center volunteers to best support center fundraising and public relations activities.

5. EXPAND KNOWLEDGE

  • Must maintain updated knowledge of development and communications strategies and aphasia programs and activities.
  • Attend trainings, conferences and courses as appropriate/approved.
  • Increase knowledge of computer applications and donor base software.

Educational & Experience Qualifications: BA Minimum, MA preferred, plus 4/5 years of experience in development, marketing, special events, public relations, and grant writing. Strong writing skills a must. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Raiser’s Edge or comparable fundraising database systems preferred.

Personal Qualifications: Must have excellent verbal and written communication / public relations skills. Must have good organizational skills. Must be personable, assertive, flexible, creative and self-directed. Able to handle multiple tasks/projects simultaneously and work effectively with teams.
