Position Summary:

Working as part of the Data Team, the Data Insights Manager is responsible for helping staff effectively use data to make decisions, assess program results, set goals and gain performance insights. By assessing the data needs of frontline staff and operational management, the Manager will leverage client data and develop,test and implement resources that are easy to navigate, comprehend and contribute to TBP’s operational performance and monitoring framework. The Manager will provide guidance on operational training and support management build skills to utilize Salesforce and Tableau in their daily management strategies.


The Data Insights Manager will not only serve as a strategic and technical resource for making data more accessible, but will demonstrate how data can be used to elevate client voices, improve service delivery, and help staff meet individual and team goals. 


Key Responsibilities:


Learning & Improvement Activities

  • Collaborate with and coach Regional Directors and Ops Managers to advance a data culture (i.e., knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors) with front line staff to better understand variation in client outputs and outcomes and achieve learning and improvement goals
  • Work with Operations leadership and training team to ensure that staff understand how their performance is being measured and how it relates to their daily and weekly procedures and responsibilities
  • Develop indicators to evaluate the impact of the Manager’s own work, including but not limited to collecting metrics on data usage, synthesizing qualitative feedback from managers and program staff, and demonstrating how the position’s outputs (i.e. resources, reports, visualization, data, etc.) translate into improved staff knowledge and goal achievement
  • Participate in quarterly data reviews with management team to reflect on progress and support relevant adjustments in learning and improvement agenda
  • Contribute to and help document TBP’s overall learning agenda annually


Data Reporting and Visualization Activities:

  • Serve as an expert on TBP’s program logic model and how program assumptions are operationalized in Salesforce through the collection, visualization, reporting and analysis of data
  • Standardize and execute TBP’s monthly and quarterly data reviews in Tableau
  • Query data warehouse to harvest data to help answer data requests and internal research questions
  • Assess the needs of managers and program staff in order to plan, design, and execute dashboards and page layouts in Salesforce and Tableau to increase the use of program data 
  • Design reports and dashboards that assist Ops Managers in monitoring ongoing quality assurance practices to improve program fidelity and track progress to goals
  • Build, instruct, and assess the use of reports and dashboards that disaggregate data for staff to better understand variation in outcomes based on client characteristics
  • Serve as a facilitator for reporting and data quality in TBP’s Salesforce system by managing access to editing of reports, implementing changes to filters and data fields, and continually refining how data fields are captured and displayed
  • Develop a brand guide for consistent application of data visualizations that are easy to process on CEO’s website, in external and internal reports, and in databases
  • Create data visualization templates for use in presentations, publications, grant reporting/applications, and website
  • Respond to ad hoc request for program data by other support hub departments
  • Assist with the design slide decks to effectively communicate TBP’s model and program impact


User Centered Data Design Activities

  •  Assess the responsiveness of  Salesforce database design to user needs by:
  • Enhancing and monitoring feedback mechanism for end-users
  • Compile, contextualize, and synthesize staff needs and suggestions regarding the Salesforce system
  • Compiling feedback into actionable items for new releases
  • Assisting with the testing of database enhancements
  • Communicating changes that were implemented for end-users in order to demonstrate the Salesforce team’s responsiveness
  • Assess and suggest improvements for staff uptake adoption of Salesforce and ongoing capability development
  • Assess data quality in Salesforce system and ensure accurate accounting of results


Knowledge Sharing Activities:

  • Evangelize the use of data in trainings and in internal learning forums via data informed stories, reflective data discussions, and case studies of effective practices by staff
  • Identify and regularly share examples of staff progress using data to achieve success, innovate, and meet challenges in internal learning forums (i.e., management meetings, brown bag lunches, training sessions, communities of practice)
  • Work with the Director of Program Quality and Client Experience and the Operations Training team to develop training protocols and materials for new and existing staff members that are clear, organized, and user-centered to encourage greater learning and knowledge retention
  • Assist the Operations training team to create content for “learning with data” workshops at the site and management levels to improve the data analysis skills of staff, including understanding basic data visualization techniques, how to effectively use common dashboards in meetings and for daily case management, and how to create their own customized reports and dashboards
  • In coordination with Regional Directors, help develop regional community of practice forums to uplift effective service provision and data usage


Qualifications:

You are driven, highly organized, and have a deep commitment to The Bail Project’s mission to eliminate race and wealth-based disparities in our criminal justice system. A sense of humor, innovative spirit, and willingness to adapt to the change inherent to a rapidly scaling start-up are essential.

To excel in this role, you likely bring the following:

  • 5 years of nonprofit program or capacity work; advanced experience with using data systems and software tools to visualize data
  • Demonstrated interest and experience in racial and social justice or criminal legal reform
  • Experience creating reports within a CRM platform, Salesforce preferred*
  • Experience creating data visualization and utilizing dataviz software, Tableau preferred
  • Ability to summarize performance management concepts for general audiences
  • Commitment to working in a team setting toward common goals
  • A self-motivated, flexible, and hard-working approach
  • Strong decision-making and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational abilities, flexibility and an ability to handle multiple projects
