OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the Senior Director, Financial Planning & Strategic Analysis, the Manager, Analytics & Strategy will be a key contributor to all long-range financial planning efforts within Year Up - you will be heavily involved in the modeling of financial projections for new and existing sites, and the vetting and evaluation of alternative and cost-effective approaches to promote financially sustainable growth for the organization. In partnership with the Director of Corporate Development, you will provide a high level of service and analytical support to the National Finance team and internal cross-functional teams, as well as Year Up senior management. In addition to developing long-range financial projections, the Manager, Analytics & Strategy will be responsible for providing ad hoc reporting and analysis, and improvements to existing modeling practices and other financial processes.

As a successful candidate, you already have a strong analytical foundation and you are looking to apply your experience to solve complex challenges within a dynamic and growing non-profit organization. You are detail-orientated and naturally analytical - you excel at demonstrating logical thinking when gathering, analyzing, and presenting financial projections and analysis. You are a natural self-starter and take initiative when faced with complex and ambiguous questions. You are adept at prioritizing your workload and you feel empowered when navigating time-sensitive and competing requests. You have an adaptable communication style and feel comfortable conveying key financial concepts to both financial and non-financial audiences. You approach your responsibilities to your teammates and cross-functional partners with a service mindset.

This position will provide you with a strong foundation in the comprehensive economics of Year Up's Direct Service model. Your ability to deliver consistent results will lead to broader and more complex responsibilities.

In keeping with Year Up's values, the Manager, Analytics & Strategy will also have the opportunity to interact with students as a mentor, group facilitator, and advocate, participating in building a positive educational environment.

The location for this role is flexible and is open to candidates in New York, NY and Boston, MA.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial Modeling

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial projections on new and existing sites, as well as emerging strategies
  • Develop models to test hypothetical strategies and overall financial impact related to staffing, pricing, student admissions, and other operational variables
  • Identify and analyze cost-effective approaches to promote financially sustainable growth for the organization
  • Provide monthly visibility into the organization's future financial needs by maintaining our consolidated projections model


Financial Analysis & Reporting

  • Prepare and present variance analysis and reporting to identify historical trends and major drivers
  • Consolidate data from disparate sources including Adaptive, Salesforce, Tableau, NetSuite
  • Identify and implement improvements to existing modeling practices and other financial processes
  • Support the preparation of quarterly board materials and other key deliverables


Site Team/Learning Community Member

  • Serve as a coach/mentor for a small number of current students
  • Join and sometimes facilitate weekly group sessions with students


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 3 years' experience in accounting, finance and/or financial planning and analysis; ideally including prior experience with for-profit enterprise organizations
  • At least 1-2 years' experience working with quantitative models, as well as preparing financial reports and forecasts
  • Advanced Excel and pivot table skills for analysis and modeling; prior experience with Adaptive is a plus
  • Exceptionally organized, demonstrated resourcefulness and initiative with a "can do" attitude
  • Excellent at workload prioritization, resource management, and project management
  • Strong adherence to a professional code of conduct with excellent written and verbal communications
  • Detail-oriented but can see both the forest and the trees with a demonstrated foundation in qualitative business analysis
  • Intellectually curious and comfortable working both independently and collaboratively
  • A passion for working with young adults, an unshakable belief in their potential, and a strong commitment to the mission of Year Up
  • Understanding of the Opportunity Divide and its drivers
  • Commitment and desire to better understand diversity and inclusion
