The Actors Fund, a nationwide human services organization that helps all professionals in performing arts and entertainment, seeks an Activities & Volunteer Coordinator to develop creative programming and activities that will help older adults age well by staying socially engaged, integrating cultural and arts-related activities, and providing opportunities for residents to volunteer, while building a sense of community.

The Rodney Kirk Center is a residence based social services program designed to address the social service and activity needs of older residents of a federally subsidized residential building. This position will work in concert with the Rodney Kirk Center developing activities and programs that will help older residents stay socially engaged and maintain their independence allowing them to ‘age safely’ in place.

The Activities & Volunteer Coordinator will work under the direction of the Rodney Kirk Center Supervisor and in partnership with other Actors Fund activity programs at additional housing sites.

This position will be responsible for assessing the interests, skills, and needs of senior residents in order to develop activities that creatively work the mind and body to encourage healthy aging and enable safe “aging-in-place.” These can include cultural arts, social recreation, and other creative/educational activities. The Coordinator will identify and collaborate with community organizations with existing complimentary programs.

This position will also work with all residents to evaluate the interest in developing a resident based Volunteer Program and work to develop intergenerational volunteer activities that address the needs of seniors. The Coordinator will oversee the recruitment of volunteers and implement a screening process to ensure a match between the skills, qualifications and interest of a volunteer and the program. He or she will develop orientations and provide specific trainings.

Administrative responsibilities will include developing and keeping current policies and procedures which will guide the program and reflect the overall values and goals of The Actors Fund. The Coordinator will monitor and ensure volunteer program compliance with all federal, state and local laws relevant to volunteers in the workplace. He or she will ensure confidentiality of clients and manage risk, promptly notifying supervisor and HR staff of any concern.

  • Bachelor’s Degree, plus 2 years work experience in related field.
  • Minimum of two years of volunteer or activities related experience.
  • Flexibility and ability to establish and maintain positive, collaborative working relationships with others both internally and externally to the organization.
  • Strong computer and organizational skills.
  • Periodic weekend or evening hours, and travel within the NYC area.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft office (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint) required.

This is a full-time salaried position based at The Rodney Kirk Center in Manhattan Plaza in the Times Square area of New York City. The Actors Fund offers a competitive salary, as well as a comprehensive benefits package, including: choice of multiple health and dental plan options, voluntary vision, flex and dependent care plans, employer-paid life and long-term disability insurance, supplemental life and disability, 401(k) plan with generous employer match, tuition reimbursement, generous paid time off and TransitCheck commuter benefit or paid parking, depending on location.
