Position description:

The Seattle Aquarium is looking for one to two part-time guest services representatives to join the team! The primary function of the guest services representative (GSR) is to work directly with the public to fulfill a variety of customer service responsibilities, such as greeting guests and selling admission tickets. This includes offering a high level of customer service to our guests, many of whom are tourists from around the world. As we work with people of all ages and backgrounds, we strive to handle situations with grace, empathy and a sense of humor, including those that may be complicated or challenging. Strong preference will be given for proficiency in a second language; Spanish, Chinese, Korean or Japanese is preferred.

We are looking for people who are able to process transactions, make change accurately and quickly and maintain accurate financial records while serving our guests with a smile. GSRs use Acme Point of Sale (POS), a computerized ticketing and reservation system, for all transactions. GSRs provide information in person, as well as via computer and telephone, about exhibits, admission prices, memberships, education programs and events. Ideal candidates will have a minimum of six months’ cashiering experience, be customer-service oriented and possess strong communication skills.

The Seattle Aquarium is a progressive, equal-opportunity employer that values a diverse workforce. One of our core values is fostering an inclusive community and we want our staff to reflect our community. To that end, we encourage diverse candidates to apply, including but not limited to Black, Indigenous and People of Color applicants and members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Essential functions:

  • Redeem online timed tickets, sell admissions and virtual reality (VR) tickets, membership passes, CityPASS and other partnership tickets. Receive payments from the public for admissions, programs and other revenues, and record revenue to proper account in the POS. Ensure all processes comply with audit requirements as outlined by the finance or membership departments of the Seattle Aquarium.
  • Sell and renew Aquarium memberships. Follow our policies and procedural documents to handle our members appropriately.

·        Greet ticket holders as well as potential visitors outside the Aquarium front door and point all that approach in the right direction in order to enter the Aquarium with no confusion.

·        Greet and process school and other groups; communicate with group leaders to collect accurate head count and ensure groups are paid in full.

  • Sell tickets for, operate, clean and maintain VR pods. Load guests in and out of VR experience, providing safety information and performing basic troubleshooting as needed.
  • Occasionally assist evening event rentals by greeting guests, providing navigation assistance for vendors and answering guest questions.

·        Communicate professionally and effectively with our guests about the Aquarium and its various programming. This includes helping guests over the phone and while providing occasional backup coverage for the receptionist.

  • Accommodate members and know when to professionally refer an escalated situation to a supervisor.
  • Demonstrate stellar customer service at all times! The Aquarium is a great place with excited guests who are ready to enter as quickly and easily as possible—GSRs are key to making the right first impression.
  • Handle cash and all other forms of payment responsibly, accurately and consistently with POS sales reports. Make daily deposits and, when needed, act as a witness to other GSRs in processing deposits.

Additional responsibilities:

  • Maintain a professional appearance, wear Aquarium uniform, and keep work area clean at all times.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled cashier team meetings and general all-staff Aquarium meetings.
  • Perform other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned. Examples: assist with data reconciliation projects and ticket inventory.

·        Other duties as assigned.

Required skills, abilities:

·        Knowledge of fundamental cash handling procedures as a cashier and the ability to operate a computerized POS.

·        Ability to process transactions, make change accurately and quickly, and maintain accurate financial records.

·        Customer service skills in order to professionally respond to a high volume of public contact. Must quickly learn and be familiar with prices, joint tickets and memberships, and be able to advise guests on making the best choices.

·        Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills and ability to interact with our diverse community. Ability to work with people of all ages and handle a variety of situations, including those that may be complicated or challenging, with grace, empathy and a sense of humor.

·        Knowledge of Excel, spreadsheets or word processing and keyboarding skills.

·        Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

·        Clear understanding of and experience with working in a team environment and at an organization with significant attendance levels.

Experience, education and certifications: We will consider various combinations of relevant experience and education in order to meet minimum requirements.

·        Experience using handheld devices such as iPad, Android, etc.

·        Experience and comfort working with people from around the world.

·        High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Preferred:
