Job Opening:    Outreach Associate

Reports To:      Senior Director of Outreach and Engagement   

Status:                Non-Exempt, Full Time


Main Function: 

The Outreach Associate is responsible for generating awareness of and interest in Bright Star Schools throughout the communities we serve. The majority of the Outreach Associate’s responsibilities will take place in the field and will include, but are not limited to, flyering, neighborhood canvassing, tabling at community hubs, presenting at events and foraging relationships for more outreach opportunities. 


Recruitment/Outreach Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: 

·        Work with the Senior Director of Outreach and Engagement to create and execute a community outreach plan to hit enrollment targets across all schools.

·        Assist the Senior Director of Outreach and Enrollment in identifying and connecting with potential partners, including local organizations, schools, institutions, churches, businesses, etc.

·        Serve as an ambassador for Bright Star Schools through tabling and flyering in community hubs around the school, at local businesses, at community gatherings, during events and festivals.

·        Research and attend community-related events to increase Bright Star Schools presence and recruit prospective families. 

·        Provide information to prospective students and families regarding school programs.

·        Update our enrollment tracking system with most current information on the enrollment progress of prospective students. 

·        Support the planning and day of logistics of internal outreach events, such as Information Sessions, school tours, and lotteries. 

·        Work with our Middle School Administrators and Family Engagement Coordinator to create a pathway for our 4th graders to successfully transition to our middle schools and our 8th graders to successfully transition into our high schools.

·        Follow up with interested families and guide them through the enrollment process.

·        Design and translate outreach materials when needed.

·        Replenish outreach and enrollment materials at schools as needed to keep applicant families informed.

·        Any other duties as assigned. 


Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: 

·        Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills. Bilingual skills are a bonus. 

·        Ability to connect with others and forage strong relationships.

·        Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.

·        Capacity to work independently and be a self-starter.

·        Results-driven and exceptional problem-solving skills. 

·        Ability to connect with people from a variety of backgrounds.

·        Strong organizational and time management skills; demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail. 

·        Experience in a marketing/communications or customer relations background

·        Charter Schools background preferred, but not required. 

·        Connections to Koreatown, San Fernando Valley and Baldwin Village would be bonus

·        Required to travel between multiple worksites on a frequent basis. Must have reliable transportation and hold a valid Driver’s License. 


Qualifications

Minimum: 

·        High School diploma required.

·        Minimum two years of experience in a school environment, as a community organizer or in sales/marketing.

·        Evidence of strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

·        Desire to be a team player.


Commitment: 

The time commitment for this position is Monday – Friday; hours vary depending on events but may include some weekends and evenings, averaging about five evenings and weekend days per month. 


Salary and Benefits: 

Salary:                Competitive, hourly rate depends on experience and qualifications.

Status:                 Full Time, Non-Exempt

Location:            Central office in Koreatown, CA. Schools sites in Los Angeles, CA (Mid-City Area: Adams & La Brea, Koreatown, and Panorama City)
