About the Position

StreetSquash is seeking a driven, innovative Social Worker with a primary focus on middle school programs and family engagement, who has a passion for supporting young people and putting them on the path to achieving their academic, personal, and professional goals. This position will report to the Senior Director of Social Work.

Ideal candidates will have a deep commitment to youth development in an after-school setting, value personal excellence and have comfort supporting a young person's social emotional development. They will have significant experience working with youth of color attending public schools in urban areas, and experience managing groups at varying development levels.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual, group, and family counseling for cohort of 6-9th grade students
  • Develop and lead social-emotional development curriculum and enrichment programming
  • Communicate regularly with all staff about student action plans, and lead case and team meetings
  • Support students and families in their academic and personal growth, including case work school visits, home visits, action planning, and crisis intervention.
  • Serve as liaison to the Family Leadership Board, attending meetings one Saturday a month
  • Network with other organizations and external services to refer students and families as necessary
  • Collaborate on relevant programming with the Social Work staff and the organization as a whole
  • Must be able to work occasional weekends and evenings throughout the year for events, trips, and other StreetSquash events
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities, as necessary

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years experience working with youth and adolescents
  • Minimum 2 years experience with parents and family engagement
  • Registration as a Licensed Master of Social Work (LMSW) preferred
  • Excellent writing, research and computer skills
  • Interpersonal, organizational and networking skills
  • Sensitivity to different cultures and communities
  • Knowledge of NYC Public Schools, transfer schools, and special education desirable
  • Supervisory experience, SIFI eligibility or SIFI certified a plus
  • Familiarity with Google Suite a plus
  • Valid driver's license
  • Spanish speaking desirable

Benefits

Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefits include employer-supported health coverage, transportation and cell-phone stipends, 40 hours of sick time, 3 personal days (after first 90 days), DOE winter, mid-winter, and spring breaks, 2 weeks vacation, and 401k contributions after 1 year of employment.
