JA of Greater Washington partners with school systems, charter schools and private schools to bring unique programming to every student from middle school through high school. The organization engages global, national, and local business leaders in meaningful and authentic interactions with students, in addition to recruiting and training thousands of volunteer mentors from the community to provide consistent guidance, insights, and support.

The Director, Education leads and executes transformational student learning experiences with a team of Education Managers responsible for the delivery of programs in the territory of Junior Achievement of Greater Washington in accordance with the organization’s yearly operating plan. This position requires a person that can work across dynamic, high-achieving teams, coordinate internal and external programmatic initiatives, support and develop field personnel, and act as an external representative for Junior Achievement in the education space. The incumbent carries out all outreach, administrative, and management procedures to ensure the annual student reach goal and adherence to program models and quality across educational experiences and coordinates team towards successful achievement of team- and department-wide goals.

Duties include, but are not limited to, managing programs and program managers with emphasis on training, retaining, supporting, and recognizing teachers and program site hosts. The position guides the development and maintenance of positive educator relationships and supports positive school system relationships. This position interfaces with teams across the Education department as well as with the Communications and Development departments.

Primary Responsibilities

Program Planning & Strategy

·        Coordinates with Vice President of Program Operations on implementation of program goals per yearly operating plan as it supports the organization’s long-term strategy and implements tactical plan to achieve student outreach goals via educator-led and volunteer-led programs.

·        Oversees development and implementation of tactical plan to retain school and teacher partners in strategic alignments to reach organization’s student outreach goals.

·        Assists in development of yearly calendar that includes timetables, procedures and responsibilities to be accomplished.

·        Participates in yearly budget development for program implementation.

·        Supports the Vice President of Program Operations on implementation of departmental initiatives as they support the organization’s long-term strategy.

Program Implementation

·        Supervises, balances and tracks the goals and progress of three Education Managers and implements performance management process as defined by HR department.

·        Leads collaborative process with team members to ensure a strategic, coordinated outreach and documentation effort within area of responsibility.

·        Conducts on-the-ground implementation of pilots that promote the organization’s strategic programmatic vision.

·        Maintains expertise in the full scope of JA educational experiences, including participation in JA USA calls, committees, and conferences as appropriate.

·        Prepares and reviews weekly targets and long-range forecasts with Vice President Program Operations.

·        Oversees development and implementation of educator orientation to a high standard.

·        Oversees implementation of comprehensive recognition plan for program stakeholders from the education community.

·        Provides support for high-level program constituents, such as principals and program partnership leads, including generation of appropriate correspondence, communications, and follow-up.

·        Dedicates professional time to ‘volunteering’ in each of JA’s implementation models.

·        Participates in and learns the nuances of the student and volunteer experience for all JA blueprint programs, including cross-training to execute JA Finance Park simulations

·        Is knowledgeable of the volunteer recruitment process and able to present to prospective volunteers if/when appropriate.

Program Oversight & Evaluation

·        Collaborates with Vice President, Program Operations to ensure program fidelity and an even end-user experience across the region.

·        In collaboration with full Education Team, implements quality improvements to ensure all programs meet the JA USA model.

·        Assures program quality through email, phone calls, evaluation instruments, and classroom visits.

·        Continually provides feedback to educators and JA staff to help maintain program fidelity.

·        Oversees constituent evaluation protocol, including surveys and necessary follow-up.

·        Ensures timely data entry and report generation, as required to ensure positive program management.

All other duties as assigned.

A successful candidate will have:

·        5 years' experience in a classroom setting, with specific expertise in secondary education

·        Formal experience working with curriculum and standards-driven education

·        Understanding of how school systems run, the dynamics of public and charter school education, and the work flow of educators

·        Ability to pass a federal background check, and to be permitted to work in the presence of children, prior to the first day of employment

·        Ability to motivate and mobilize educators

·        Experience in local school systems or substantial knowledge of the local area preferred

·        Proven track record of excellence in supervisory role

·        Proven ability to manage staff and initiatives remotely

·        A mastery of JAGW’s basic competencies, and a commitment to our guiding principles

·        Reliable personal transportation: local travel is required for this role

·        Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

A successful candidate will be:

·        Highly collaborative

·        Experienced in presenting complex information in a wide variety of settings with the aim of influencing audiences to take action

·        A multi-level communicator with demonstrated ability to deliver messages tailored by audience (written and verbal) in both in-person and digital environments

·        Skilled at creating efficiencies and keeping track of details

·        Comfortable spending multiple hours per day working on a computer

·        Able to work in a classroom or facility setting for several hours at a time
