At Fair Trade USA, our brand embodies our steadfast values and unique mission. As Production Manager, you will use project management, design, strategy, and cross-department techniques to administer and guide the organization’s creative process, support a culture of creativity, and in collaboration with our Visual Designer, build a structure and organization for compelling and functional design.

You will anchor yourself in our brand’s visual identity and be responsible for directing and upholding the integrity and quality of our brand in management of our photographers, designers, and brand materials, as well as be willing to step in for minor design projects yourself with guidance from our Visual Designer. As the manager of our projects spanning our photography of farmers in Africa to signage in local retail stores, you’ll sit at the heart of connecting the Fair Trade movement from the hands that grow products to the hands that purchase them.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Production Management (85%)

  • Lead the Producer photography program (5-10 shoots per year):
  • Manage all remote photojournalists around the world
  • Own the Fair Trade photography guide & photographer onboarding
  • Coordinate site visits with farm/producer group and categories
  • Manage website where final images are stored and categorized for use by internal staff and business partners
  • Manage up to 4 design contractors at a given time, including:
  • Negotiate rates and manage contracts to meet deadlines and budgets
  • Setting timelines and managing stakeholders to meet deadlines
  • Ensuring Fair Trade brand guidelines are understood and followed
  • Manage and stock all items in Fair Trade’s fulfillment house (point-of-sale & merchandise)
  • Coordination and communication with printers
  • Trademark registration and guidelines

Design Assistance (15%)

At times you’ll be asked to do edits or support on minor design projects, such as:

  • Event materials, such as invitations and collateral
  • Minor graphic edits to tailor for our various brand partners
  • Organizational material updates, such as PowerPoint or report templates



  • 4-5+ years of experience in project management, preferably in design production management
  • Demonstrated success working with third party vendors and various internal teams
  • Applicable leadership and budget management experience
  • Thoughtful attention to detail in design, with a collaborative, intuitive workstyle
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Google Suite, and Box
  • Track record of using project management software, such as TaskRay or JIRA
  • Understanding of Sketch, Photoshop, and/or Illustrator
  • Excellent time management
  • Grasp of ethical consumer behavior and trends
  • Strong self-directed organizational skills: ability to work independently and capable of working effectively in a fast-paced environment while juggling multiple projects
  • Flexible and adaptable to emerging technologies and new environments
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience with either digital agency or consumer brand is preferred
