Description & Responsibilities


The Information Systems Manager will oversee the information systems used at Ceres. He/she will manage information systems projects, supervise the Database Administrator, and providing training on systems to Ceres staff. He/she serves as a resource for staff, answering questions, managing systems project requests, and serving as a second Salesforce point person when the Database Administrator is not in the office. This position reports directly to the Senior Department Director, Human Resources and Operations and will provide support in addressing the IT needs and systems at Ceres. This job is an opportunity for a tech savvy, detail-oriented, systems-thinking, and energetic individual to enhance and develop information systems used at Ceres. This is a full-time position based in Boston, MA. 


Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

o Productivity Systems

o Conduct annual assessment of productivity tools used at Ceres

o Make recommendations for enhancements or new products

o Ensure all systems, as much as possible, coordinate with each other and provide actual efficiencies and support staff

o Provide training to staff on new systems or improvements to current ones

o Serve on the Culture Committee's Productivity Systems sub-committee

o Support relationship management with external IT vendor and oversee projects

o Database Administration

o Oversee the Database Administrator ensuring he/she is:

o Performing regular database de-duping and cleanup procedures

o Responding to ongoing support requests and administrative needs of users

o Evaluating and proposing new products to enhance the use-ability of Salesforce, G-Suite and other technology systems

o Attend annual conferences or local seminars sponsored by Salesforce to remain up-to-date on their system and accompanying apps

o Develop a project request system and support the administrator in prioritizing projects

o Supervise and mentor Database Administrator, including project management, training and evaluation duties and supporting professional development.

o Training and Documentation

o Establish best practices, set standards and develop training materials

o Provide training and ensure implementation and usage of best practices

o Set best practices standards and train all staff to use system in that manner

o Conduct annual assessment of user interaction with tool and incorporate findings into training plans for following year

o Survey user adoption rates and respond as needed (additional training sessions, communication, modifications, or other resources)

o Oversee training and development of materials (such as how-to guides), and documentation (best practices/protocols) for new and current database users and keep up-to-date

Organizational Support: As a member of the Operations Team, the Manager may be asked by the Senior Department Director of Human Resources and Operations to provide technical or administrative support on team or organizational issues.



" A Bachelor degree, required. 

" At minimum, 5 years of professional experience working on technology in the workplace. 

" 1-2 years of applicable CRM work experience, required.  

" Demonstrated knowledge of the platform, required.

" Excellent project management skills and ability to prioritize projects. Proven track record of achieving results.

" Demonstrated strong project management skills of multiple, complex projects. 

" Prior experience managing and training staff or interns.

" Planning expertise and delivering projects on deadline and within time and resource budgets. Attention to detail is required.

" Effective presentation style as well as strong speaking and written communication skills.

" Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

" Prior experience designing and providing training.

" Ability to translate technical matters into everyday language for staff to understand

" Knowledge of G-Suite, donor databases and database integration for websites preferred.

" Prior experience in a fast-paced, growth-oriented organization.

" Sound judgment, sensitivity to diverse constituencies, excellent interpersonal skills, proven ability to demonstrate initiative and motivation.

" Ability to take initiative and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

" Desire to work in a mission-driven, non-profit organization.
