COMPENSATION: $55,000-$65,000 based on experience

ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND: Communities United (CU) is a growing intergenerational grassroots organization that works across communities on issues of education justice, increasing access to affordable and quality healthcare and housing, youth investment, and justice reinvestment. CU’s organizing approach actively engages and develops community and institutional members to advance social, racial, and economic justice. Recently named one of five global awardees of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation Racial Equity 2030 Challenge.

PURPOSE OF POSITION: Communities United is seeking to fill the full-time position of a Program Coordinator to manage our Bikes N’ Roses program in Belmont Cragin/North Austin community. Bikes N’ Roses is a youth-led non-profit bicycle collaborative that addresses resource racial inequities facing low-income youth by creating leadership opportunities and jobs for young people; increasing access to healthy, clean, and affordable transit; and promoting violence prevention by providing positive out of school opportunities for youth in communities challenged by disinvestment and a lack of resources.

BACKGROUND AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

• Prior experience working with youth.

• Prior experience working in areas of bike repair.

• A passion for cycling and cycling-related activities.

• A strong verbal and written communicator.

• Strong communicator and self-motivator.

• Strong background in developing and delivering engaging lessons plans.

• Some background in management.

• A quick learner and ability to multitask.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Youth Participation: Oversee recruitment, intake, and retention of youth participants, and communication with parents; ensure youth engagement within both program and business operations; serve as a positive role model for youth participants.

• Business Operations: Monitor program budget, ensure quality control, set and achieve sales and services goals, track and oversee inventory to ensure program funds and resources are properly used.

• Curriculum & Instruction: Develop and implement bicycle-based youth development curriculum through a 6-10-week instruction cycle.

• Data Management: Manage and document program data such as participation rosters, youth hours, youth attendance, and volunteer hours.

• Facilities Management: Manage use of program spaces, equipment, and supplies; maintain a safe and positive learning environment for youth participants, staff, and other Communities United stakeholders.

• External Relations & Fundraising: Represent BNR and Communities United to support program growth by developing and maintaining partnerships with local schools, communities, and funding sources. Manage a program-related grant portfolio and execute fundraising in collaboration with Communities United’s Development Director.
