Salary

$45,000 - $55,000
Salary negotiable up to $65,000 depending on experience.


The Blind Children’s Center is looking for an upbeat and entrepreneurial individual to join our Development team. The Blind Children’s Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a rich 80-year history, located in the heart of Hollywood. Our mission is to foster the development and education of children who are visually impaired in a fully inclusive (sighted children in each classroom) school setting. The Development Associate is an integral part of a small and nimble Development team charged with the Center’s fundraising and communications. 


Reporting to the Director of Development, the successful candidate will be tech savvy, eager to learn, and be able to both take initiative and to follow through on assigned tasks. The Development Associate provides logistical and administrative support for various development functions, including gift processing and data entry, the maintenance of donor records, special event support, volunteer recruitment and management, and supporting communications in the areas of print, social media and web channels. S/he will manage the development calendar, support donor research, and assist with regular donor communications and stewardship.

 

All interested candidates should have the ability to effectively collaborate with staff, volunteers, donors and community members and a commitment to work with people from diverse educational, socioeconomic, family, and cultural backgrounds. 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: None


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:


Database Management and Cash Receivables

• Utilize Raiser’s Edge (NXT) for daily gift entry and batching.

• Send personalized thank you letters to all donors and mail out memorial and honorarium cards.

• Enter all related information for special events into Raiser’s Edge event module.

• Update and maintain all donor record information as they become available.

• Generate and circulate cash receipts reports and acknowledgement letters for review and approval; mail acknowledgement letters once signed.

• Accountable for tracking the monthly processing of their credit card donations.

• Coordinate with finance department to ensure regular reconciliation of gifts and records.


Donor Stewardship 

• Assist with stewardship projects, including donor recognition, VIP event follow-up letters, holiday card mailings, special event invitations, personal calls to donors, etc. 

• Maintain accurate contact information, giving histories, and tracking correspondence between donors and the organization using Raiser’s Edge software.

• Work with Director of Development to build prospect lists and other key data to generate revenue.

• Assist in the production of mailings. 


Volunteer and Event Coordination

• Recruit, coordinate and supervise volunteers for special events.

• Assist in planning and executing all events. 

• Serve as primary Delta Gamma liaison and conduct Delta Gamma collegian tours of the Center.

• Manage Delta Gamma alumnae and collegian engagement and recruitment.


Public Relations & Digital Media

• Maintain the Center’s social media presence. 

• Support the development of media alerts, press releases and articles to keep the Center in the public eye.

• Shoot digital photography/videography as needed on campus and at events.

• Manage the Center’s social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter & YouTube. 

• Coordinate updates to the Center’s website. 

• Light desktop publishing and layout as needed.


Other 

• Occasional evening and weekends required.

• Assist with other development department projects as requested. 


 Job Qualifications:

• A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required.  

• 3-5 years of experience in nonprofit development.

• Experience working with Raisers Edge required.

• Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Outlook, Word, and Excel.

• Experience with standard website CMS (Wordpress) a bonus.

• Experience with Adobe Creative Suite or desktop publishing preferred.

• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid fingerprint clearance is required.

• Ability to speak, read and write in English.

• An operable automobile, valid California driver's license and automobile insurance are required at all times while working for BCC.

• Strong writing, proofreading, and organizational skills.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk, including going up and down stairs; and sit for extended periods of time. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
