Housing Solutions Lab Technical Assistance Coordinator

The NYU Furman Center invites applications for a Technical Assistance Coordinator to join the Housing Solutions Lab (Lab). Launched in June 2021, the Housing Solutions Lab works with cities to design, plan, and evaluate evidence-based local housing policies that advance racial equity; increase access to opportunity; and improve long-term health and well-being for residents. The Lab serves cities of all sizes, with a focus on small and midsize cities (those with populations of 50,000-500,000).


The Technical Assistance Coordinator will work closely with the Lab’s multidisciplinary leadership team to develop and implement the Lab’s overall technical assistance strategy to help cities address their local housing policy challenges. TA engagements will support cities’ efforts on a range of housing policy topics, including meaningfully engaging community members in policy and program design; designing and implementing policies that increase the availability of safe, affordable housing; and tracking and evaluating the success of housing policy initiatives.  


Performance will be evaluated through informal and formal check-ins with the Housing Solutions Lab Executive Director. 


Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and implement the Housing Solutions Lab’s technical assistance strategy 
  • Engage with city stakeholders to identify their technical assistance needs and priorities
  • Build, maintain, and work with the Lab’s TA Provider Network of local and national organizations, which provide direct assistance to cities through one-on-one assistance and engagements with networks of cities
  • Refer technical assistance requests from city stakeholders to Lab TA providers 
  • Monitor and document technical assistance referrals and outcomes 
  • Collaborate with Lab team members to plan and implement trainings and webinars
  • Contribute to the development of Lab policy products to disseminate best practices and key learnings 

Qualifications:  

  • 2+ years of professional work experience, including experience building relationships with external partners (e.g., nonprofit organizations, government officials, and other stakeholders)  
  • Experience with or interest in the provision of technical assistance and training
  • Policy knowledge related to affordable housing, urban planning, or community development
  • Excellent diplomacy, relationship management, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting equity in public policy
  • A Master’s degree in Public Policy/Public Administration/Urban Planning, or an equivalent field.
