THE BROTHERHOOD/SISTER SOL (Bro/Sis): Based in Harlem and founded in 1995, The

Brotherhood/Sister Sol is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit comprehensive youth development organization. Bro/Sis provides

holistic and long-term support services to youth who range in age from 8 to 22. Bro/Sis offers wrap around

evidence-based programming such as four-six year rites of passage programming, thorough five day a week after

school care, school and home counseling, summer camps, job training, college preparation, employment

opportunities, community organizing training, and month long international study programs to Africa and Latin

America. Bro/Sis is locally based with a national reach as we publish assorted curricula and collections of our

members’ writings; train educators from throughout the nation on our approach; and advise on educational policy

across the country and New York City. Our theory of change is to provide multi-layered support, guidance,

education and love to our membership, to teach them to have self-discipline and form order in their lives, and then

to offer opportunities and access so that they may develop agency.

WHO IS A LIBERATION PROGRAM FACILITATOR: Liberation Program Facilitators hold space for youth

leaders to emerge as social justice change agents, activists and community organizers. They educate Bro/Sis

members to develop skills to identify problems within their community, analyze solutions and act to create social

justice change. They guide members as they learn about past and current leaders and movements on local, national and international levels. They train members to develop and manage organizing campaigns and related actions. They collaborate with other staff and partner organizations to help members develop critical literacy to read the word and the world, and arm them with the tools to create a more just world.

The RESPONSIBILITIES of a Liberation Program Co-Facilitator include:

> Five or more years youth development and organizing experience, including coordinating all youth organizing

efforts, developing curriculum for leadership training and evaluation

> Work with Liberation Program Co-facilitators, Lead Organizer and Associate Executive Director to develop and

co-facilitate curriculum and activities for youth ages 14-17 about social justice, community and transformation

> Manage program reporting as well as program and campaign evaluations

> Develop and implement a plan to recruit and retain new members

> Provide members with holistic and comprehensive support - available 24/7 to members

> Document program activities and maintain youth records

> Plan program year, identifying key issues to address

> Serve as our members’ teacher, counselor and mentor, helping them develop a strong sense of self

The QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS of a Lead Organizer & Liberation Program Co-Facilitator include:

> Prepared to make at least a 3-year commitment to Bro/Sis

> Have an affinity for youth, and established experience engaging youth in community organizing working in

coalitions and developing curriculum

> Have knowledge of existing local and national issues related to public schools, fair policing and/or immigration

that includes an analysis of how gender, sexuality, class, race, and immigration status intersect with these issues

> Knowledge of Pan-African and Latinx history and culture

> A strong writer and oral communicator who is able to work with diverse staff and volunteers

> Bilingual Spanish-English

> College or professional degree in education or related areas is a plus

> Licensed driver & ability to drive a 15-passenger van a plus
