Citizen Action of New York is a statewide, grassroots, member-led organization that fights for social, racial, economic and environmental justice. We organize in communities across New York State to build power. We collaborate with organizations and coalitions to win on key issues and elect progressive candidates at the local, state and federal levels.

The Regional Director is responsible for the development and overall management of Citizen Action of New York’s organizing and grassroots lobbying efforts throughout the Capital Region and Hudson valley, and actively leads and manages while providing support and supervising. The Regional Director will report directly to the Movement Politics Director, and will work closely with the Political Director. This position requires demonstrated knowledge of organizing and fundraising, organizational and chapter building techniques, and electoral strategy. 

The Regional Director must have organizing grit, a bold vision, and be ready to roll up their sleeves and provide leadership to win strategic campaigns that will shape the growth and impact of Citizen Action. The Regional Director will ensure that Citizen Action achieves its organizing and political goals in the field; supervise, train and direct organizing staff, and develop and implement fundraising plans. Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with Citizen Action staff, local leaders and members are critical attributes for this assignment. 


Duties and Responsibilities:

●Work with staff to develop and execute electoral and issue-based campaign plans.

●Promote and build support for Citizen Action’s initiatives through oral and written communication with its members, organizers, influencers, and the public. 

●Create and implement a robust fundraising plan.  

●Supervise, lead, assign, and evaluate staff including developing individual work plans with staff and overseeing their implementation and evaluation.

●Work cooperatively with other organizations, elected officials, unions, and their political/field representatives to build relationships.

●Recruit, interview, and recommend hiring staff.

●Mentor staff in building political power, training among staff as it relates to organizing, fundraising growth, and managing multiple chapters

●Monitor member leadership development goals and work with staff to meet them.

●Make strategic assessments about chapter building initiatives

●Monitor and direct the local endorsement process. 

●Create weekly work plans and ensure that supervision is done based upon those work plans.


Additional Factors:

●Thorough knowledge of organizing and political campaign strategies, planning and execution.

●Experience in fundraising

●Ability to work independently with members and elected leaders in complex political situations. 

●More than three years of experience in supervising and leading a team.

●Knowledge and experience with managing voter contact and field campaigns.

●Extensive knowledge of and experience working with voter files, modeling and targeting, and the Voter Action Network (VAN).

●Strong community outreach, organizing and engagement skills.

●Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships and to work in a team.

●Demonstrated ability to maintain working relationships with key stakeholders.

●Strong skills in advocacy with elected officials.

●Experience working with labor unions strongly preferred.

●Ability to manage and assess multiple high-priority programs and priorities in different regions of the state.

●Ability to manage and help develop electoral and grassroots campaign plans, logistics and timelines.

●Ability to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.

●Ability to work with leaders, staff, partners and operate with a high level of judgment and discretion.


Salary and Benefits: Starting Salary: $60,000 annually, will commensurate with experience, full health benefits.
