SUMMARY

The Specialist, Family Engagement’s primary responsibility is managing, implementing, and analyzing initiatives and resources for the Center for Family Engagement’s initiatives. The primary purpose of the role is improving the reach and impact of family engagement, resulting in increases in membership, particularly among diverse parents and families. In this role, the incumbent will have a dual focus on family engagement as well as membership development. The Specialist, Family Engagement will work independently and collaboratively with all PTA stakeholders to support National PTA meeting its strategic plan objectives for family engagement and diversity, equity, and inclusion. The specialist will serve as subject matter expert for multicultural outreach.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

·        Research, identify/create, package, and disseminate tools and resources to support engaging diverse families in education and membership efforts.

·        Develop tools, infographics, and written resources on family engagement, diversity, and inclusion.

·        Develop training materials (in-person and/or virtual) on family engagement, diversity, and inclusion.

·        Develop targeted membership outreach/recruitment marketing materials to use in family engagement programs, trainings, and resources.

·        Manage relevant grants and awards program (with volunteer leadership, where applicable), to include the promotion, solicitation, review, selection, notification and reporting processes.

·        Collaborate with National PTA’s Communications Team developing plans, web content, and social media messaging to communicate family engagement initiatives and resources to the field.

·        Provide technical assistance, training, and high-quality customer service to PTA members and State PTA Congresses on issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion

·        Work across departments to embed and support a family engagement and membership focus, especially focused on advancing cross-departmental diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and programs.

·        Support organizational partnership efforts by acting as a point of contact for key organizations that advance membership and engagement with diverse families (Hispanic/Latino, African American, Military families, Males, LGBTQ, etc.)

·        Work with organizational partners to develop workshops, disseminate resources, coordinate efforts, and/or feature stories or best practices for PTA and external audiences.

·        Prepare and monitor project timelines and evaluation tools

·        Support volunteer committees and may serve as a committee liaison as requested

·        Provide regular, routine reports and status updates to supervisor on projects and work efforts, including quarterly reports on the status of goals

·        Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

·        Bachelor’s degree in communications, youth or community development, education or related field or equivalent experience is required.  

·        Experience in developing and implementing member and family outreach or engagement initiatives.

·        Minimum of 1 year experience working in an education, volunteer, or membership organization, preferably with direct contact with families, volunteers, or members.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & QUALIFICATIONS

•      Culturally competent working effectively in socially, ethnically and culturally diverse environments is required.

•      Exceptional project management and organizational skills with strong attention to detail. Must be able to manage multiple simultaneous projects successfully.

•      Initiative, drive, and the ability to establish and meet deadlines as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

•      Excellent writing, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with strong preference for candidates who are bilingual.

·        Background in supporting programs and/or products, especially with a parent or practitioner audience.

•      Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office, preferably in a PC, Windows-based operating environment. Excel and PPT proficiency.

•      Background in training or facilitation of adult learners a plus.

•      Background in family, school, and community engagement, education, and youth development a plus.

•      Marketing background a plus.

•      Knowledge and understanding volunteer organizational culture is a plus.

WORKING CONDITIONS

·        Work is performed in a professional office environment; core office hours are 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM, position is based out of NPTA’s Alexandria, VA headquarters and requires ≤ 10% travel domestically.

·        Position is required to work occasional evenings and weekends for special programs and/or events.

·        Incumbent routinely uses standard office equipment including computers, phones, photocopiers, etc.

·        This is a largely sedentary role. Routine activities and special events may require the ability to lift files, packages and related materials weighing up to 20 lbs and to bend or stand as necessary.

Level of Language Proficiency
