Huntington's disease has been called the most horrible disease known to man—it is a devastating, hereditary, and fatal degenerative brain disorder that results in a loss of cognitive, behavioral and physical (motor) control diminishing the affected individual's ability to walk, talk and reason. HD is known as the quintessential family disease because every child of a parent with HD has a 50/50 chance of carrying the faulty gene often meaning the caregivers become the patients. Today, there are approximately 30,000 symptomatic Americans and more than 200,000 at-risk of inheriting the disease. It has been said that having HD is like having Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and ALS simultaneously.
