Title: PAWS Care Navigator

Reports To: PAWS Program Director

Status: Full-Time

Pets Are Wonderful Support (PAWS) provides supportive pet care services to low-income seniors and people with disabling illness (such as HIV, MS, PTSD, and cancer). We help people keep their pets in their lives when they need them the most. PAWS serves 600+ clients through services such as a pet food bank, financial assistance with veterinary care, emergency pet foster care, dog washes, and other services. The PAWS Care Navigator is a key role who provides direct support to clients and their beloved pets.

Primary Duties:

 Build and cultivate supportive relationships with clients

 Coordinate pet-care-related services such as veterinary visits, emergency pet foster care, and other animal needs

 Serve as lead staff or support staff for selected PAWS services (such as the Pet Food Bank and Dog Washes)

 Perform client intakes to confirm client eligibility and orient clients on how to access PAWS services

 Assess clients for volunteer services needs and participate in the volunteer-client matching process

 Perform ongoing support to clients including telephone calls, emails, and in-person visits

 Provide individual care planning and referrals to meet the client’s needs for services

 Maintain documentation according to departmental standards, using a computer-based client information system

Secondary Duties

 Participates in individual supervision, team meetings, other meetings, and other collaborative work

 Participates in agency functions and fundraising activities as assigned

 Participates in the development and delivery of educational programs for clients

 Performs other tasks as identified and assigned


 BA/BS (or equivalent experience) and a minimum of 1-2 years of experience providing services to people in need

 Must truly love pets

 Appreciation for the power of the Human-Animal Bond

 Well-organized and able to juggle numerous competing tasks

 Finds fulfillment in engaging directly with clients for long periods of the day

 Preferred experience with communities living with life-threatening illness and/or other day-to-day challenges

 Comfortable with technology (e.g. Excel, Outlook) and ideally using databases (such as Raiser’s Edge and/or Salesforce)

 Familiarity with the philosophy of Harm Reduction

 Proficiency in Spanish would be useful, but is not at all required

 Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of individuals and groups
