    Position Description

    The Director of Operations’ position is an exciting opportunity to lead a non-profit organization with enthusiasm, skill, and proven ability. The Director reports to the Executive Board of Directors, President and Vice President, to implement the organization’s strategic goals. This includes overseeing the management of a 15,000 sq ft studio and 25 employees; collaborating with the Artistic Directors on the development of youth and adult dance programs; collaborating with lead volunteers; overseeing community engagement activities, sponsoring organizations and community partners; fiscal management; and managing media relations.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Administer and manage overall operations of VBC, including staff hiring, supervision and evaluation.
    • Develop policies and procedures to support VBC mission.
    • Uphold VBC policies and execute strategic planning activities consistent with VBC's mission.
    • Lead, support and collaborate with staff, program managers, committees and lead volunteers to deliver quality services and programs effectively and with fiscal accountability.
    • Negotiate contracts, independent contractors, and guest artists in support of productions.
    • Lead, support and expand fundraising opportunities together with a volunteer committee.
    • Research and apply for applicable grant funding.
    • Maintain official records and documents and ensure compliance with legal and governmental regulations.
    • Work with the Finance Committee to prepare the annual budget and take responsibility for financial goals.
    • Support the Board of Directors in activities and planning.
    • Build external relationships and represent VBC to the community at-large, including community dance groups, county officials, individuals, corporations, agencies and foundations.

    Required Qualifications

    • Education: Minimum of Bachelor’s degree and 2-3 years of experience in nonprofit business management and administration of programs, personnel, and fiscal accountability OR 5+ years of experience in performing arts business management and administration of programs, personnel, and fiscal accountability.
    • Excellence in administration with the ability to hire and manage staff, develop volunteer teams, and implement programs.
    • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple, time-sensitive priorities and leverage limited resources.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and computer literacy.
    • Must pass required background check.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience working with non-profit organizations, performing arts non-profit preferred.
    • Past success in working with a Board of Directors and cultivating relationships with members.
    • Past success in fostering broad participation by volunteers in all areas of the organization.
    • Experience with grant writing and submissions.
    • A true enjoyment in working in the arts field.

    Job Type: Full-time

    Pay: $55,000.00 per year

    Schedule:

    • Day shift
    • Evening shift
    • Monday to Friday
    • Weekends as needed

    Ability to Commute:

    • Fairfax, VA 22032 (Required)

    Willingness to travel:

    • 25% (Preferred)
