We are currently seeking a Director of Compliance, who will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight to ensure organization-wide compliance with federal, state, local, and HCZ, standards and regulations. The incoming Director must have experience assessing and mitigating organizational risk and be passionate about the work of serving low-income communities. The ideal candidate will develop effective policies and procedures that reflect the values of the organization. This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as point of contact for external legal counsel
  • Recommend, develop, and implement changes to operating policies and procedures, oversee revisions, and publish new and updated compliance policies and procedures
  • Oversee real estate agreements and remain current with building regulations
  • Assist with the response and remediation associated with regulatory actions
  • Manage risks related to third-party vendor agreements
  • Provide advice and guidance to leadership on legal matters and risk mitigation
  • Develop internal controls by leveraging data and technology solutions to improve business processes
  • In collaboration with the Managing Director of Information Technology, ensure data privacy requirements are maintained
  • Perform reviews of high-risk areas and participate in internal audit process to advise on areas for improvement
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned

Qualification, Skills and Knowledge Requirements

  • Understanding of the HCZ mission and a connection to it as it relates to the position
  • Juris Doctorate required
  • 5-7 years of experience in Law, Compliance, or Risk Management; non-profit/education experience is a plus
  • 3-5 years of management and leadership experience and the ability to manage effectively in a matrix organization
  • Strong project management skills and a demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritize tasks
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills to relate to a diverse community of stakeholders
  • Strong ability to think strategically, work independently, and develop strategies to prioritize legal issues
  • Knowledge of incident management systems
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and work professionally in a busy, team-oriented environment
  • Excellent written, oral, presentation, and facilitation communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion regarding all matters
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools
