Position Summary

The Executive Director has overall operational responsibility for Topfield Equestrian Center and is responsible for the execution of its mission, with particular emphasis on strategic program development, planning, and fundraising. Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and develops program, marketing/communications, and fundraising plans to meet the needs of the community and ensure TEC’s success.

Requirements and Qualifications

● Interest in and desire to implement programs that align with TEC’s mission required; experience with organization serving similar population desirable.

● College degree required; Master’s degree or higher in nonprofit management, business, or similar field desirable.

● Minimum 5 years senior management and related experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector

● Proven track record of success as a fundraiser, including accomplishments in strategic planning, major donor cultivation and solicitation, and corporate partnerships. Grant writing experience desirable.

● Excellent written and verbal communication skills including public speaking experience.

● Strong experience in human resources, including recruiting, retention and management of diverse staff.

● Ability to develop and manage budgets and familiarity with nonprofit financial record-keeping and reporting.

● Experience teaching horsemanship skills and/or PATH Intl. Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor credential not required but beneficial.

Responsibilities

1. Develop robust therapeutic horsemanship programming:

a. Recruit, retain and manage all program staff, including program directors/managers

b. Create a comprehensive, organized and diverse program designed to address the challenges of children and adults with special needs in the communities surrounding TEC.

c. Create and implement marketing and communications plan

d. Oversee the development of a volunteer program to support and enhance the programs

e. Ensure programmatic excellence and consistent program quality through evaluation tools

2. Develop and implement administrative and financial systems to ensure successful and ongoing operations of TEC, including creation of annual budget and reports about current financial position

3. Develop and implement comprehensive and realistic fundraising plan including:

a. Individual donors, including major donors

b. Foundations

c. Special Events

d. Corporations

4. Ensure health and well-being of horses and any other animals owned by or residing at TEC by

recruiting and retaining qualified staff, and partnering with professionals, including local

veterinarian, farrier and equine dentist.

5. With support from the Board, Executive Director will have full responsibility for developing job

descriptions for staff and will determine staffing needs and priorities.

6. Actively pursue partnerships with organizations and agencies who can assist with TEC’s mission

delivery and/or where TEC’s programs can be impactful

7. Prepare comprehensive report for the Board of Directors, for every Board meeting, about the

state of TEC including program achievements/challenges, financial and fundraising status and all

other matters that impact their ability to govern TEC. Attend all Board meetings.

8. Develop and maintain relationships with therapeutic horsemanship community, including PATH

Intl., to stay abreast of significant developments and best practices in the field.

9. Assist the Board of Directors in the cultivation of new Board members and advisors.

10. Ensure compliance with all local, state and federal laws and regulations that relate to the

business of TEC.

11. With the Board of Directors, develop new strategic plan to sustain and expand the organization over the next decade

12. Other responsibilities as assigned by the Board of Directors.
