Summary:

Reporting directly to the Senior Accounting Manager, the Staff Accountant is an integral member of the accounting and finance team and the organization.

  • Direct oversight of daily bank account, credit card and stock gift activity and prepare all associated journal and checkbook entries;
  • Complete daily check deposits as first step of timely processing donor contributions
  • Create electronic fund transfers and bank check files as an important part of the weekly grant and cash flow process
  • Propose ideas to make the processes above more efficient and work with Senior Accounting Manager to implement
  • Assist with reconciling bank and investment statements, the monthly close, annual audit and tax returns
  • Provide client customer service, statement creation, audit requests and pursue issue resolution, as needed
  • Prepare and file annual state registrations
  • Cross train to support other areas of finance and accounting, as requested.

Education, Experience and Skills:

Ideal candidates will have a 4-year Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and have worked in a similar role for 5-7 years (experience with non-profit organizations is strongly desired). We are looking for a team player who has a positive attitude, good communicator and gets along well with others. This position will have a variety of responsibilities and the candidate will need to be able to juggle, be organized and detail oriented. We are growing and evolving so will need someone who is willing to learn and change with us. This person will work independently but should know when to ask questions and communicate to all levels internally and externally when needed. Other important skills include strong Microsoft Excel knowledge and experience with one or more accounting software packages.
