AFS Intercultural Programs leverages the power and reach of 58 National AFS Organizations to accelerate the local, global and collective impact of our 105 year old nonprofit. 

AFS International is the global leadership, coordinating, and administrative body of the AFS Network. Our office is located in New York City and we work with a global team of staff and consultants.


Position Summary

AFS International is looking for a Branding and Design Specialist to join our communications team. This position is full time and based in our office in NYC. In this role, you’ll be the guardian of our global brand and a key part of our external communications team, working with people that span 58 countries. You’ll have the chance to think strategically, while also being hands-on, creative and tactical. This position reports to the Director of Partner Engagement and Communications, and is part of a unit that includes an external communications manager, and internal communications specialist.


Responsibilities

  • Create, manage and maintain AFS corporate brand assets with the goal of ensuring global brand consistency and a compelling visual identity for our global organization
  • Design and prepare final production-ready artwork for a variety of media (both digital and print) for various audiences, working on high-level conceptual work with our executives as well as operational and hands-on projects with Programs Marketing and other teams; Play a major role in the visual production for the annual AFS Global Conference and Network Meeting (taking place this year in Singapore, with approx. 300 attendees)
  • Assist in basic production and design of video content
  • Educate AFS staff worldwide on how to find and use brand and assets; help them promote global corporate messaging over digital channels


Qualifications

Design and technical skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, branding or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience; prior experience working in a multi-national company or with colleagues based in different countries a plus
  • Excellent spoken and written English skills (fluency in at least one other language a plus, especially Spanish)
  • Proficiency of production required including Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat Pro); still and video camera equipment; video editing software such as Adobe Premiere, After Effects or Final Cut Studio
  • Portfolio that demonstrates creative and stylistic excellence, storytelling, problem-solving and technical mastery; artwork for a variety of media for various audiences; ability to illuminate ideas and visualize design stories across a variety of media
  • Knowledge of social media management and analytics tools
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite and Apple equivalent

  • Self-driven, organized, detail-oriented work style, with ability to meet deadlines and manage a diverse range of projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work across diverse teams and projects, independently, and remotely
  • Attention to details

People/communications skills

  • Patience with colleagues and Partners who might not be as experienced with design and communications as you; Ability to guide and train colleagues to use brand assets consistently
  • Problem-solving attitude; must be comfortable with giving and receiving multiple rounds of constructive feedback; ability to adapt established methods for new users, and pursue creative strategies (visual or otherwise)
  • Great communication and interpersonal skills; ability to quickly build relationships; comfortable and excited to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • An interest in understanding the intercultural education industry and the AFS organizational mission


Location & Hours

Role requires full time presence in our office in NYC. Most work will take place during Eastern Standard Time, but given the global nature of our organization you must be willing to work flexible hours and occasionally travel. A high percentage of the people you work with each day will not be located in our NYC office, which means taking Zoom calls, often at hours outside of a normal 9-5. Position is full time. Must be willing and able to travel internationally on a limited basis.
